How do you access the in-game menu on the Mega Everdrive? I have the option enabled from the main menu, but when I push Down+Start I'm getting nothing.

Also, how do you get the cheats to work? I entered some Game Genie codes and nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong? They're yellow so they're active.

The game I was testing was Moonwalker. Is there something special about this game that none of these options work?

Are you using it on Genesis or 32X? In-game menu does not work on 32X.

Just a Genesis Model 2 with a Sega CD attached (my SCART cable didn't like my 32X so I took it off).

Just as an experiment, did you try detaching the Sega CD?

Unplugging the CD has no effect. I still can't get the in game menu to appear.

You have to push down and start pretty quickly together from my experience. I don't think (maybe I am wrong) that you can, for example, hold down start and then hit down or vise versa. Have to press them both down almost at same time.

Other than that I am unsure what issue is.

Yeah I figured it might be pretty quick so I tried it all kinds of different ways, but no luck. Igor suggested I try some other games, so I'll do that tonight. Maybe Michael's magic is blocking the menu or something? ;)

That's weird. Why is that? Are there any other games where the in-game menu doesn't work? I assume the game genie codes didn't work on Moonwalker either for the same reason?

I don't give any warranties that ingame menu will work in all games and i tell it many times. Probably you use some wrong codes or ram codes, if they does not work. A lot of people have problems with gg codes cuz they know nothing about gg codes specific, but i don't realy want to talk about gg, cuz gg codes is not my invention, i just implemented it in my cart. Internet will help you to get more information about gg cheats and possible problems.

Some games require master codes for other codes to work.

I think people expect in-game menu and save states to work like they do on emulators. I understand why people think this, but its not the case. Emulators, well emulate, the original hardware. So they have 100% control over what it does. In the case the flash carts, since you are not emulating the hardware, you are at the mercy of the original hardware's abilities.

There seems to be still a lot of confusion on how flash carts work and what they can do.

Oh I'm not mad or anything, I was just curious as to why that's all. Moonwalker was an early run of the mill game, so I was surprised that the menu didn't work since as far as I know there's nothing particularly special about it.

As for the Game Genie codes, how do you tell if it's a RAM code or not? I did not see a master code for Moonwalker, so I assume the non-working codes I used were RAM codes (infinite lives, invulnerable to damage, etc.)

Was about to say just that. Cause a lot of games do a checksum check and the master code is required to defeat that check.

I tried the in-game menu in another game and it worked. :)

I'm guessing the Game Genie codes didn't work for Moonwalker for the same reason the in-game menu didn't since I didn't see a Master Code for Moonwalker listed on any site. I'd still like to know the technical reasons behind why some games work with the in-game menu and some don't, but for now I'm content to know that it just doesn't always work. :)

I nice feature would be a way for MegaED to remember what was the last in-game menu setting you had per game. So if GameX does not work with in-game menu and you turned it off before playing the MegaED automatically turns in-game menu off for this game. If GameY works perfectly fine with in-game menu and you had it on when to last loaded that game it turn in-game menu on before loading game. This would be nice way to take advantage of in-game menu and save states for games they work on and not for games they don't. No need to switch back and forth all the time.

Incorrect! GG codes work for 100% of games, in case if code is correct and it is not a ram code. Tonns of wrong codes available in internet, also code may work only for one version of rom, but does not work for other version of rom. Please learn more about GG codes usage in internet, i really tired to hear all those question about gg codes. You should know about rom/ram codes, checksum checks, various rom versions of same game etc. Mega-ed have no any problems with gg codes, you just should understand how it works and know a bit about typical problems with gg codes

My experience with GG codes is limited to the NES which is the one I had when I was a kid. The NES GG seemed to always work, so maybe the 16-bit GG's are more complicated. The codes I was entering were correct (I looked on several different pages including the game genie site) so they must have been RAM codes (I was playing the US version).

Bumping this incredibly old thread to ask a question regarding this. I recently purchased a Mega Everdrive for the increased SMS compatibility over the original version. It's not arrived yet so I haven't had a chance to test it myself.

Are you saying that only ROM codes will work, and RAM codes will not work? If so, I'm glad I kept my PAR :/
