So i've been softmodding Xbox's for awhile for freinds and family (see below pics) with 250 or 500gb IDE drives with no troubles. Had a few old hard moddded xbox's I upgraded to 1tb sata drives (using slayer)..again no troubles.

I use chimp as to clone the drives on softmods, no problems with IDE but whenever I try to use chimp for a modern SATA drive...Chimp reads the Sata drive as the master and I can't pull it off. Ive read lots of articles and I seem to be following all the steps (attached as well). Not sure what i'm missing (and yes, I have the pins on the IDE set to master).

any advice would be greatly appreciated, I've tried a variety of drives, some EXACTLY what others have used.

Here's the CHIMP Instructions im using.

    Chimp HDD swap

    Tools:

    - Torx 10, 15 and 20 screwdriver set.
    - A molex power splitter.
    - A larger & LOCKABLE IDE hard drive or a SATA hard drive if your planning to use a SATA to IDE Converter.

(Check for LOCKED Hard drives ONLY - Xbox compatibility list :http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=list)

    - A copy of your EEPROM (normally stored in E:\Backup\EEPROM on your Xbox). An official Microsoft controller, NOT a third party one!

    Step by Step Instructions:

    01. Power off your Xbox and open it up. Connect the molex splitter between both your existing and new hard disks.

    02. Set the new hard disk's jumper to Slave.

    03. Power up.

    04. FTP the Chimp2168 folder into your E:\Apps folder on your Xbox. Don't rename the Chimp2618 folder to anything else or the program won't work!

    05. Copy the LinuxBoot.cfg file into the root of the E:\ drive.

    06. Ensure you've backed up your EEPROM using your modded dashboard. Normally stored in E:\Backup\EEPROM on your Xbox.

    07. With your Xbox on and idle in the dashboard, unplug the IDE ribbon cable from the DVD drive (!) and plug it into the new hard disk.

    08. Load Chimp.

    09. Select option 1 and scroll down to confirm both drives are detected.

    10. Select option 2 to clone your existing files over to the new drive.

    11. Once that has completed, select the option to lock the new cloned disk. It will use the backed up EEPROM on the master disk to get the security key.

    12. When finished, power off.

    13. Put the IDE ribbon back onto the DVD drive and set the new hard drive jumper to master.

    14. Unplug the power and IDE cable from the old hard drive and replace with the new larger cloned hard drive.

    15. Power on!
