I've scoured the internet for the Creative Media source 5 software that I seem to need to be able to put music on/off this thing. I've installed everything I can from here but last one needs creative media source 5. I presume this is what I use to put the music on the player itsself but the creative website doesn't have it and every link on the internet links to a dead link. Effectively unless I find the CD it came with i'm fucked (its a second hand gift). Edit: a buddy hooked me up with CMS5, I install it and get "installation is unable to conitnue because of one or more unresolved issues. please contact support services and quote "error I-001" gonna look that up now
You don't need the disk. Just need to uninstall new windows media player. Google creative zen windows media player and you should find the info. I am on my phone, else I'd link
I couldn't find anything :/ Windows is detecting the player now though, I can enter it and see the music, I figured It was one of those "just stick it directly on, no drm" players but no luck, it runs slow when I enter it. Ill click delete, wait a few seconds and then the delete window will come up, I click okay, but it doesn't delete it. FYI it is this model: http://support.creative.com/Product...e=ZEN Xtra&subCatName=ZEN&CatName=MP3+Players
You need to use Windows Media Player 10 (or 9?) and upgrade the firmware. You should then be able to manage it OK. Windows Media Player 11 doesnt work so well with it (cant remember if it does after the update though - its been awhile)
Can't stand media players where you need to install software to "manage" the device contents. Would sooner have one which just acts as USB mass storage any day.
I'm on WMP 12 at the moment, so I'll install 10 and then upgrade the firmware. Don't even get me started on this. I thought creative weren't that bad for it but then they come out of nowhere and pull an apple and make you need shite software. Ridiculous.
I went through a long process to get WMP10 to run on windows 7, nothing will synchronize to it though. constantly says error
I fixed one of these recently for someone. He had to buy another one for me to take apart, then dump the firmware chip then flash to his broken on as it was completely bricked by a bad update. I had the media player issue, but got it to work by downgrading as above.... Have you managed to update the firmware? there is also a restore/reset process, but cant remember it off the top of my head - but it erases the hdd and starts over. Might need to do that.
It's not bricked, theres music on it from the other owner and I can listen to the music. I've tried the PlaysForSure firmware (the newest), but it asks me to close all other programs and run it, I do that and it just freezes for a short while, and goes back to wanting me to close everything. The other firmware creative offers I already have loaded onto it. I put the firmware I already had back onto it, and then it allowed me to synchronize it (no error this time) and It's not on the MP3 player at all.
I wasnt saying yours was bricked, just what I had done previously. Id try WinXP to update the firmware.
