I've needed to build a cantenna, the question is how critical is it to ground the can?

Most people buy a connector for the can but I've made my own.

The core antenna is already grounded, I just am debating as to ground the can as well or not.

I have a can with a grounded antenna mounted inside it, the only bit not gounded is the can.

I guess it all depends on where you will be mounting it. If it is prone to lightning or even just static build up, you might want to ground it.

Doesn't it get grounded thru the antenna cable?
