I have an aoyue 6028 rework station that I've only used a couple of times. Last time, while on the cradle cooling down, there was a loud pop. I opened and found a cap had exploded. Is there a chance the manufacturer put it in backwards? Can I replace it and pretend it didn't happen?

Could have been backwards, or its getting hot from operation of the unit. I have had caps explode when reworking boards (well, I was scavenging parts, hence the lack of heat shielding)

It exploded on the aoyue power board inside the casing. The board I was practicing on was fine. Haha

I just mean maybe heat is getting into the unit. Its unlikely, but who knows with these chinese units.

Failing that, could just be backwards. Install a new one in correct orientation and see if it happens again - you will have at least ruled it out if it happens again
