IT strikes me quite unusual that a Japanese game company would be so vocal about one of their business partners. Quoting GI, Monster Hunter 3 now a Nintendo exclusive Capcom has said that the high development costs of working on the PlayStation 3 are the reason the publisher is moving its latest Monster Hunter title to the Nintendo Wii. "Due to high development cost of titles for PS3, we have decided to switch the platform to which we release our Monster Hunter 3 title," said Katsuhiko Ichii, Capcom's managing corporate officer, according to Thompson Financial. I think monster hunter wouldn't require much more than Wii, but for them to openly slam sony seems unusual.
I wonder what system Sengoku Basara X will go to....I hope not Wii......Nintendo and their damn import blocking......
Proably means they are just going to port the PS2 engine to the Wii and hope nobody notices because the Wii isn't that hot graphically.
What else are they going to say? The PS3 is a gigantic bomb, and there's no fucking way we're putting one of our shitty flagship titles on that turd pile.
They did exactly the same with the PS2. It amuses me that Japan whines while the rest of the world gets on with it.
That's like Elton John openly admitting he's gay. Very re-assuring however, since i own a Wii and not a Ps3 (and wont own one until there are actual games that interest me)
Best reply ever. Why don't Capcom say the truth.... "Well the Wii has a larger user base of casual gamers and kids, and we can rehash an old engine which they won't notice where as the PS3 we would have to do some real work..."
Its interesting, since many Japanese developers are starting to develop mainly for the DS and Wii now. I dare say that part of it was because the Monster Hunter series is not that big in the US or Europe, but is huge in Japan: A country that is currently moving more toward the Wii. Coupled with the fact that they already have a working engine for the PS2, and they could make it on the cheap AND have it sell well due to the low PS3 sales.
exactly what i thought. just port the ps2 version , add a new sory , a few quests and a control nobody needs.
Games like that have no interest to me but it looks like I'm in the minority in Japan on that one Yakumo
My question for capcom is, Why not just **** both and make it for the psp insted? The series has been a massive hit on the PSP and has sold far better then the ps2 versions. Also to throw a monkey wrench into the party machine... http://wii.ign.com/articles/826/826558p1.html " UK, October 11, 2007 - Despite Nintendo reporting it can't keep up with demand for its Wii console, a Japanese newspaper is claiming that developers are concerned its bubble is about to burst, with some actually nervous about making titles for the motion-sensing machine, in case they don't sell. This comes from The Nikkei Business Daily, which has been speaking to software houses about their thoughts on the future of Wii. Several developers claim that Nintendo has been the only beneficiary of Wii's success as it was able to predict demand for the console, while other publishers were forced to catch up quickly producing titles - some of which ended up as flops. Meanwhile, others think that the Wii is only a fad and its popularity will fade. One unnamed president of a developer told Nikkei: "The Wii is like the 'Billy's Boot Camp' weight-loss program on DVD. People bought it out of curiosity, and it's likely a lot of them haven't used it". According to Nikkei, concern is also growing in the Japanese industry after sales of Wii slowed considerably to just 168,000 units - the worst month of sales since December 2006. Now companies are "on guard for signs of a major change"."
anyone know anything about the gamers day that Capcom are holding in London on the 17th of October? It`s mentioned here: http://kotaku.com/gaming/capcomton/capcom-teasing-megaton-bombshell-news-309343.php
Or make it for the DS where it'd sell like, 20x more. ;-) But in so far as your article, I imagine most people saw that coming. People only buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games. Doesn't matter how big the system is, most 3rd party support will still not sell well on a Nintendo console.
