I've got two of these. As far as I could ever tell, the SNES/SFC version was the black one, and the Gen/MD version was the white one?

It appears that they had a standard plug on the stick itself, which then would have its proprietary cable with the correct "end" on it for whatever version you bought.

    Right?

Well, I'm curious of anyone has come across just the cable itself - I have two sticks, but only one cable. I've been sitting on them for many years.

A couple months ago, this popped-up http://www.assemblergames.com/forum...m-Adaptor-Pinout&highlight=Capcom+Power+Stick which helps... I guess? - NES pinouts?... though I couldn't just make my own [detachable] controller cord since I assume the stick-side port is proprietary? (or is it some obscure "standard" thing?)
That leaves me with the idea of hacking a regular SNES controller cord, hardwired, into one of my sticks. Not ideal...
Heck, if I could find a MD version of the cable (assuming my compatibility assumption is correct), I'd totally go for that so I could have a decent stick on my Genesis.

Haven't checked (I know, I should have), but is the pin spacing the same as a regular DB15? So I could physically mod a DB15 to fit? or is the plug some alternate DB15?

It is a nice stick. Nothing super special, but a hell of a lot better than the standard/easy-to-find stuff on this side of the pond.

Pardon the dirt. Probably should have wiped the unit down a little better before I took pictures... but it was in storage. Hah!

Gen/MD version is hardwired according to this video (at 1:03 mark).

ExMosquito was looking for Famicom pinout and since I don't own the Japanese version of the stick I figured a NES pinout can still be helpful since there are plenty of Famicom to NES pinout info on the web. With my information he should still be able to figure out the Famicom pinout he needed.

The proprietary plug has a pin spacing/pitch of 2.54mm. It appears DB15 should physically fit as long as you machine/dremel out a slot on the plug to accommodate the key (bump) on the socket in the stick. I was thinking of making my own 3D printed plug before. I got distracted by something else. I think I may try to give this idea another try.

    Ah!
    Thanks for all the info!

I am certainly not afraid of a dremel. I might even have a random/trash DB15 sitting around in a box/drawer somewhere that I can prototype with (at least perfecting the fit before I buy a connector to wire-up). Looks like the main part is getting that "pin 12" notch. And then maybe just some resizing/fitting, assuming it doesn't just slide right in there after that.
Wish I had both theoretical parts right here in front of me. Why didn't I take that damn thing home... left it on the table. I did remember the rest of my CD collection and a couple other things... Arg.
As for the final pinout, as long as I keep it SNES/SFC I can easily probe my good cable and figure that out. IF the Nintendo/black version is internally compatible with Sega (seems like it won't be, since the Sega version does appear to be hard wired as you say! Never really noticed that before!) then I would have to figure out that pinout... buuuut I'd say my SFC collection far outweighs my MD, so that's a back-burner idea for sure.

I'd love to see the Sega version's guts...

I suppose if you don't slot/notch the DB15 plug, you can alway cut/drill out he bump on the joystick side. I personally would avoid that if I value the joystick more than the cable.

It doesn't seem like NES/SNES controller is electrically compatible with Genesis. It's not just a matter of difference in plug/pinout. You will need a converter of some sort. I actually wanted to do something similar like you. I'm not a hardcore stick user, but I always thought Capcom Power Stick is a slick looking peripheral and it would be great if some mod can be done to make it more useful for multiple system use.

I did came across this on the web. He also sells a ready made conversion cable. That would be the easy way for Genesis use but it would still not solve your need for another cable for your second joystick.

The SFC and MD models contain the logic of their respective controllers, ie SFC contains a shift register, the MD a multiplexer (+ MCU for 6 button support likely). The SFC's controller protocol is an extension of the FC/NES so they're directly compatible but IIRC B is mapped to Y and A to B, which is probably why the Power Stick is laid out the way it is.

Yeah, it deserializes the SFC/MD button states and drives a "pasokon"/J computer gamepad. Normally the pads are passive 2 button, but one pin must be an output control signal so the games can read in more than 2 buttons.

I have the SNES version of this, we actually found it from Goodwill. From my research, there are a few versions of this. Some with different microswitches/button setups, and the Sega version is seperate as noted above. I'd imagine the Sega version would work on a Commodore as well, as we frequently used Genesis controllers back in the day on the C64.

As an aside, I tested my stick out playing Megaman X, and it's great. Super responsive and a very good feel. I always felt the SNES buttons were a bit squishy compared to the Sega controllers.
