Anyone here have this port of Captain Commando the capcom arcade game to the playstation? I've seen only a bit about it, and I think I looked into it once only to find it's insanely expensive to obtain. I think I found out about it sometime after looking into Mortal Kombat II for PSX. Any ever see any disc or cover scans or anything like that?
yeah, it is expensive, released only in Japan for Playstation, same as MKII. decent port, though it has quite a bit of loading times. it has similar cover to its soundtrack counterpart by pony canyon.
I had Captain Commando. It is pretty much an arcade perfect port. And yes, pricey. Probably 7000 yen at least or so for a mint/complete copy. A decent writeup although my opinion of unlockable credits has changed over the years.
I sold a factory sealed copy for 100€ recently, and price was really fair compared ot his rarity in such condition. I even had the special Captain Commando Mug when the game came out in 1998!
Seems like the game is currently worth a bit more than 7000 yens, about 12000 yens and much.Maybe you can have it for cheaper on YAJ.And well, since the game is available on the Capcom compilation in a perfect arcade port there's the possiblity that the price will just go down a bit.
Which compilation is that? The one on the PSP? If that's the case, it will have little, if any effect on the price. "Perfect" ports are not possible on the PSP. Resolution issues... something that at least some people spending $100 give or take on a game would notice such things. I would say that's a very fair price.
Xbox: Also impossible for a "perfect" port. The system only outputs in interlaced or high res progressive mode (no low-res progressive). PS2: Possible, but unlikely. It's actually shocking how many games could be Arcade perfect (Mushihime-sama, all sorts of SNK stuff including Metal Slug and their fighting games, Taito Memories), versus how many games are (ESPGaluda, Dodonpachi DOJ, the latter Hamster releases, and unfortunately only a few others). Then you've got old game collections like Sonic Gems that could have the lovely low-res output, but don't...likely b/c it's that usual cross-platform bullshit that Sega always wanks over.
But do you think that the PS1 port is always better than the PS2 or Xbox port? (I don't even speak of the SFC port which is really bad) Anyways it seems that the new port of Elevator Action returns,Mizubaku Daiboken or Cleopatra Fortune has no effect on the price of the saturn/DC versions, seems that the collection value is the strongest.
Can anyone confirm Captain Commando is not compatible with the PS2? To be honest, I googled for Captain Commando Playstation ISO and found it in 5 seconds as I wanted to try it. It wouldn't load on my PS2, not sure if it's just not compatible or what. It also had issues running on EPSXE. Didn't try it on the PSOne. Also, I wanted to say I think there's more of a charm and value for the game on Playstation as "Captain Commando" than as one of several games packed into a collection that likely emulates all the titles in it with far less care for quality than homemade emulators for PC.
I can confirm that it is compatible on a Japanese PS2. You have hit the nail on the head, sir. Emulation is not a bad thing, by a stretch. It's just a pitty when commercial studios emulate their games so poorly.
That and also I find that when you whore out games into a "collection" they are far LESS collectable, and are worth hardly anything in my opinion. I mean who cares about say Mega Man X collection. That's nothing compared to having a set of Mega Man X, X2, X3 (SNES,PSX,Saturn), X4 (PSX/Saturn), X5, X6, X7, X8. Although these collections probably devalue the originals to some point since they can be played by those who don't mind the whorish appearences.
