i have an old philips home audio system is it possible to attach car speakers to it because bookshelf speakers can get pretty expensive and i have some spare car speakers so i wonder if its possible to use without damaging audio system and speakers?
it will work fine but car audio is a bit shit... Just make sure you are within spec, impedance and such... I ran a car sub in my bedroom as a kid, using a cheap car amp and a AT power supply..
Don't do it. You want a half-decent speaker with crossover. Yes, you could damage your equipment if you don't know what you're doing. They're not expensive at all - you can get second hand ones dirt cheap and there are plenty of budget brands that aren't half bad. Mordaunt Short and Tannoy do speakers in the £50 region. Richer Sounds even sell Tibo speakers for £20. It sounds like you're talking about a cheap integrated hi-fi - maybe even look for a set of the speakers that came with it.
also how many speakers? is this just stereo or is it surround? ooh I forgot, what went along with that car sub was two 12 inch paper cone speakers pulled from an electric organ haha
Car audio is a bit shit? What? Obviously you have never been in a car with a decent sound system. My Impreza had a 5.1 system that rivaled my home cinema! Amazing sound system.
