So the rumors are true: PS3 [as PS2 and Saturn] will be pretty hard for game developers to use. Revealing that their next title after Quake 4 will be for the Playstation3 and Xbox360, Hollenshead reported that Co-Founder, Technical Director and videogame legend John Carmack’s impression of both systems was “great†for the Xbox360 and “pain in my ass†for the more demanding Playstation3. Now, the whole problem are the devkits for the PS3. If sony modifies them then there shouldnt be any problems left. Source

I don't understand why pc game makers are making such a big deal out of console systems. They make PC games there is no standard there. i odn't know just me.
Console game developers are limited in how much memory and resources they can use and are still expected by the publishers to create a game that rivals that of a top-tier PC hardware. With PCs you dont have a lot of limits than you do with a console, then again, not every PC owner has top of the line hardware... Plus, the PS3 is completely new as far as technology goes, whereas the xbox360 uses PowerPC chips, which is older and better known than the CELL cpus...
There is a standart, the X86 is one, DirectX another, OpenGL, etc..... If you mean the GPUs, sorry but they are compatible since the days of the Voodoo3 The consoles in the other hand, ARE diferent. Look at this generation: you got X86 (xbox) PPC (GC) and a modified RISC (Pstwo). When you port a game from one console to another you need to change the main architecture. Its like releasing a game in 68000, the PC, then Mac/PPC :smt100
Yes, and apart from the CPU, about everything else is different as well. Really looking forward to CELL-based PCs if they'll ever be
Indeed, I would only look foward to macs if the OS can be installed in any regular PC No way im goin back to OEM computers.........
