I remember when I saw huge piles of them at Kmart with clearance sale tags all over it. Back then there were so many Genesis past the market life that even shoplifters avoided them. Funny how 15 years can change from clearance sale of $20 and getting very dusty to getting a few hundred dollars each. :encouragement: Nice find but I probably would have passed at $700 since I'm not a reseller and I don't have the room for MISB systems.
I think back to all Genesis and 32x and Nomad's ALL being cheap on their last days. Now thinking if only!!
I was a kid when these consoles were mainstream, and i loved every bit of them. I would suspect that the reason for the increase in price is because the kids that played these consoles are now adults and can afford to buy back their childhood so to speak. I imagine that same will eventually happen with current gen consoles, although there have been almost double as many sold worldwide so the effect may not be as noticeable. Xenon 360's will probably become a sought after rarity.
this is your auction? http://www.ebay.com/itm/SEGA-GENESIS-MINI-GEN-2-SONIC-SYSTEM-BRAND-NEW-UNOPENED-RARE/151057058957?_trksid=p3984.m2045&_trkparms=aid%3D333004%26algo%3DRIC.B2B%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D30%26meid%3D8474986135594369546%26pid%3D100018%26prg%3D1023%26rk%3D3%26sd%3D190852262360%26
I don't think so. The top appears to be sunfaded and his are brand new in the box, sun fading would not be an issue
No they aren't. Look back to the original picture. His are "Core System" models. Core models had no games. This one has Sonic 2 in it. Plus what Cyantist said about the condition.
Sega sadly won't be going up in value, younger people don't know sega at all. I'd sell them within the next ten years.
You know I've thought about that a lot too. With how many collectors seem to be getting into some of the NES and SNES scene it's caused prices to go pretty high as people try to form complete sets. It makes me wonder if people will begin to explore more outside the Nintendo realm and eventually drive up Sony/Sega prices. Maybe not, but something I wouldn't be too surprised to see happen. Of course if it's truly the Nintendo franchises people are after other platforms probably won't too much steam. As omp has pointed out Sega CD's have definitely been getting out of hand lately. Especially working model 1's I'll be interested to see if it keeps up and spreads or just bursts.
Whatever happened to all of the manufacturing systems they used to make these things? If someone got their hands on one of those, think of the possibilities!
