I once owned a N64 castlevania prototype. ( 10 years ago ? ) On a old camera and computer i found some pictures and a ( crappy ) video. For that 1 die hard prototype fan enjoy ;-)
It was nice of you to share. Most people wouldn't even bother posting the footage. It is funny how a lot of n64 dev carts tend to show up in Europe.
Since it's a Castlevania proto, I'm guessing the person you sold it to was Niels since he's big into that series and is pretty much a closet collector as you said. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome! Personally I think that Tonic Trouble cart was interesting! Did you ever check the contents to see if they were marketing samples or had differences?
I did not. But these carts got sold and somebody contacted me later that the prototype had a different 2nd level. Just like a tonic trouble guide in a old magazine showed ???
There is a stage missing in one of the version's world map called Crazy Town, could it be related to that?
I recall you saying that 'the music is different' in the proto (somewhere... on a different forum... my memory is foggy), is this true? Couldn't hear much in the video. I've also seeen a similar proto labeled 0.2, yours is earlier. Your video, around 2:57, there's some obvious overlapping between windows. The main menu text overlaps the character menu when it goes down and back up. Maybe due to adding English text for the 1st time over the Japanese one? Intro background looks strangely bright blue... maybe just me but the final looks much darker. And is there a voice over or just text roll? Intro text has some differences. "But the old legends live" is on 2 lines in the final, but 1 line in your video. "again be plunged" in the final, but "again be plunge" in your video. "Heir to the ancient Belmont clan" in the final, but "Heir of the ancient Belmont clan" in your video. "Belmont clan of vampire hunters." the 2 lines have more vertical spacing in your video. Also in terms of pacing, when the line "Count Dracula." is displayed at the top, your video still shows a full moon on the left, but in the final, the moon is already 50% off screen. comparison done with this:
The only thing i remember for sure is that the intro tekst is different from the released version. There is voice over. Edit : Glad that this was different and usefull for you.
