Well, In France we have Sarkozy since one year. He's a mini-Berlusconi (with an Italian wife), so I guess we're in the same mess.

I'm feeling with you. We had similar election results between 2000 and 2006 here (Austria).

I followed the whole election process yesterday and was really disappointed when the final results were published.
How the hell could the right wing coalition become so strong (especially those lega nord morons...)?

@Cheering up: Berlusconi is already very old. I don't think he's gonna be able to make it through the whole 5 years.

Well, Italy is suffering badly! I have deep sympathy, but you keep voting him in! The American's did the same with Bush (and got an idiot in charge) and we did the same with Tony Blair (and got an unwanted meglomaniac!)

I personally am very angry that Gordon Brown is in Number 10 and he is doing this country no good what-so-ever.

I have an italian mate in the work and he's sad too.

It's strange that italians complain about Berlusconi and later he won the elections.

if you go around the country asking for who voted berlusconi nobody will answer. even the poeple that votes for him are too ashamed to tell openly :(

sadly he gets the votes of mafia, fiscal evasors, old people concerned that his televisions might disappear (so no more soap operas), idiots that votes for him "because the music is nice" and a lot of poor people that always fall for him promises.

Dont worry mate. Do it like i did. Move away from Italy, make money, buy some nice place in toscana and get back there when you are 50+ ;).
Sad story, but the Lega Nord made the difference.
Lets just hope they won't fuck up everything.

This is Italy my friend. The land where nothing is as it seems.

Which reminds me : have you seen him aging in the last 10 years? Reply : no.

well if you mean politically, he's the chief of the mid-right coalition.
BUT they strive for reforming the state, introducing federalism (one party of the coalition is totally federalism-oriented), liberalizing (or better legalizing) most of economical smaller crimes, make money, and, of course, depenalize the use of cocaine but penalize the use of marijuana.

If you mean personally, hes one of the biggest italian self-made men, a one of a kind like murdoch for an example, although he started with constructions and then just later jumped in TV business.

He's fake. He had several imputation causes against him, and he all won them somehow. He's against judges. He seems to have connections to mafia.

for people not into italian political matters, in short:

one worst part is that the left side of the parliament (thanks to the electoral law that berlusconi made up) is, for the first time since italy is a republic, COMPLETELY obliterated and won't sit in either one of the 2 parts of the parliament.

and they were the only ones that were actually pushing all these years for improving live of workers, students, youths, for public residential projects....

What is the shite law that berlusconi made?

    easy it works like this:
the party that gets the most votes will have more that 50% people in parliament. but be CAREFUL not the MOST OVERALL, just THE MOST OUT OF THE OTHER PARTIES. so if there are 49 parties with 2% and one paty with 2,1%, the party with 2,1% will get 51% of parliaments sits.

so what happened before the elections? the center-left side fused into one party. so the berlusconi's had to fuse too and choose to fuse with ANYTHING available just to get bigger and getting the majority of people in parliament.

in this process HE TOOK ANYTHING! From lega nord (an extremistic racistic movement that was planning to split the country in 2), Alleanza Nazionale (party of ex? Fascists), and Movimento per le autonomie (a new small party created after that the one before was dismantled due to collusion with mafia)...

The left side of parliament, choose to federate, but didn't reach the quorum to get in parliament mainly becuase many people that would have voted for them, voted for Veltroni in High HOPE of him defeating Berlusconi. this with a quorum of 4% on a part of parliament and 8% on the other.

    In the end? a disaster.

in the parliament there won't be EVEN ONE of the following groups
    ambientalist
    radical left parties
    ex communits parties
    soSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMts
    and so on and on!

actually in italian politics almost nothing is left and what is left i fear will not work for my country, but as with the other 2 last berlusconi's governments

i'm sure that they'll be able to double his wealthiness (yes everytime he becames premier his wealth double. magic?).

Yeah I heard about this on the radio, although I don't really know much about Italian politics. European politics in general get zero airtime here, mainly becasue our national media is a joke.

Sounds kinda like if some media giant like Rupert Murdoch (owner of Newscorp) were to weasel his way into the presidentcy.
