OK, There's a video game show in Cleveland called CCAG. See here. I can't decide whether or not to go. No big deal either way...but all the factors seems to even out in my mind. Reasons to go: -Gas is free for me, pretty much. Family pays for it, not me. (Don't giggle, still a poor student) -I really really like video games...and it'll be an opportunity to see/buy lots of interesting things in one spot -Might give me an opportunity to find something I might normally not find. -I can take buyatari up on the offer he made to some dope in this thread: http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=131533&page=2 (take some grainy digital camera pictures of unreleased protos) Reasons not to go: -It's about two hours away from my house. Not a terrible hike, but it would eat up about 4 hours of my day driving. -There is another video game show coming up here in Columbus next weekend. It will likely be smaller than CCAG, but it will be a hell of a lot closer...so I'm guaranteed to go to a video game show soon no matter what. -Potentially will miss out on Memorial day weekend cookouts and such. -Will not get to have the fun of going to memorial day weekend yard sales....then again...there are two huge flea markets in my town that I'll get to go to on monday no matter what. -No friends have yet volunteered to go with me. -I likely won't get a huge social benefit out of going to this show as 1) It's two hours away from my house and 2) I'm not the most sociable person (though, who knows I may surprise myself)...but the last game show I went to was mostly me just browsing and making small talk with a few vendors. So, it's die hard love of video games versus rational reasons not to go. Can anyone say anything super compelling to push me one way or another? I'm pretty much guaranteed to go if a friend decides to come...but now...I dunno. Edit: Shit, this was supposed to be in Off Topic. Mod?
And if you decide to go, me and fellow forum member Drew live within 10 minutes in opposite directions of where the show is at. We could all 3 meet up there or something. EDIT: Shit, just realized this show is TODAY!!!! dammit i hate working saturdays.
Eh...you didn't miss too much. Very little I was interested in. Only a little arcade stuff (just marquees), pretty much Zero PC Engine, TG16 and Neo Geo...my big highlight was a 3 Count Bount full size marquee. Very little general weird, obscure eyebrow raising crap either (goofy boots, pirating devices, etc). A few people had imports, but nothing particularly compelling. In the realm of what most people here wouldn't be interested in...I was looking for a decent deal on a Commodore 64 or maybe an Amiga...and those were sort of a No-go. Only one person was selling Commodore 64...and it was for waaay more than one is worth. Nothing Amiga at all. Most of everything I saw was 2600, Atari 8 bit, NES, SNES and Genesis...and a smathering of other things to round it out. Consoles that I already own most of what I want for and what I don't have am not willing to pay what people are asking for. Though there wasn't much I was interested in, I didn't expect to be much that I wanted to buy...so...no big disappointment here. It was a good show. For some reason, I expect to enjoy this: http://corgs-con.webs.com/ in Columbus, more.
well, if it was during the NHL season id have to drive down to columbus for this convention and a Blue Jackets game, double whammy!!!!l:lol: But just the convention will suffice lol. On a side note, fxck the Red Wings.:crying:
Be aware, this thing in Columbus will likely be even smaller than that one in Cleveland. Still, it's not that far away...2.5 hours to downtown Columbus from where you are.
Yeah, i made the trip down there a few times this year, what can i say, i love me some hockey, lol. Its not too bad of a drive.
At least you get events like this in Ohio. I swear I've never been able to find anything in Iowa. The closest I got was Anime Iowa which had some imported games.
Let me know if you comng down then, I'll be there, barring some huge disaster. I'll give you some way of identifying me or something. Thinking about getting a table or something there (if I still can). I don't really like selling games, but I thought it might be fun to show off some obscure/offbeat items that most people don't usually get an opportunity to see. A mini museum of sorts. I don't have anything SUPER rare....but at this sort of thing you normally see domestic things that are mostly Nintendo and Atari, so a Supergun, some imports and a few not-often-seen consoles might spice things up. I liked CCAG, but I was bothered by the fact that 1) there didn't seem to be a lot there to play and 2) There was a lot of the sameold sameold that everyone has seen before. Ack...then I might have to let people touch my precious games though. Even smelly, sweaty, greasy teenagers...
