I recently heard a rumor on the net that the Mega CD I cannot work with CD-Rs of Games or music. Is this true, because from what I've heard, I thought that you could play such discs on the console. Or is it possible to use said discs on CD-R, if you use the Mega Everdrive and the CD Bios function. I really need to know soon.

Last time I heard it worked fine. There is region protection but no bootleg protection.

    CD-R usually works. No guarantee.

It was neither intentionally supported or blocked. That concept wasn't part of Mega CD's design, being released before the public had access to CD writers.

never had a problem with my model 1 reading CD-R's but i know certain brands of discs can make the console be a bit picky

From experience, I can tell you that all Mega CD models can run CD-R correctly, however, the Model 1 does seem more picky about what it boots.
I couldn't get CD-R to boot at all on my Model 1 unless I burnt at the very slowest speed on high quality media, the Model 2, however, ran everything I threw at it.

And to complicate things further the software and method of burning has an impact as well.

Not as much as the crazies want you to think. They just have way too much time on their hands and want to look like they're an expert at something with using charts and graphs. There is some truth to it but your burn won't be ruined because you didn't use a certain burner with a specific firmware with this exact version of some obscure software with the moon full directly above you with the drive tilted at 27.2° to the left.

I have not burned anything recently but a while ago a made tests. I do not have any fancy charts or data, only trials and errors.
I usually use Alcohol 120% with the playstation profile to burn cd-r for old consoles but for some consoles it seems my CD-R would work better when burned with NERO burning rom. Cant remember specific expemple, it was over a year ago since I last burned a CD-R for an old console.

Same thing for CD brand, i usually stick to Maxell and Verbatim, Usually one work better than the other for a given console. Might depends on your burner drive too. Once i had a drive that was completely allergic to memorex, would ruin any Memorex CD-R you tried to burn in it. However Maxells worked 100%.

    Ends up being something like
-Sega Saturn ( Use Maxell with Alcohol 120% slowest speed )
-PC-engine DUO-R ( Use Verbatim with Nero slowest speed)

Years ago i used to use Verbs religiously but the quality definitely went downhill (still better than most tho) the biggest give away was a change in the dye, it went from a beautiful blue color to the standard greeny gold colour you get on your usual ten a penny discs, i know their are apparently 2 main types of verbs from different corners of the globe but i never had luck finding any of the decent blue ones again, probably not seen any for 10 years now, again this is just my experience maybe they are still available somewhere?

i used to use CDRWIN back in the day and really never ran into a problem with standard discs, used CloneCD for the Libcrypt protected discs or used one of the cracks and again burnt with CDRWIN, nero i did use alot too but usually for multimedia stuff, and of course DiscJuggler for the Dreamcast, however nowadays i avoid nero like the plague as its become so bloated, CDRWIN isnt really suitable for much these discs and DiscJuggler is still only good for Dreamcast stuff, i use ImgBurn most of the time now and occasionally InfraRecorder but mainly its ImgBurn as it burns everything perfectly for me

its been a long time since i even plugged my MegaCD in so cant remember what brand discs i found to be the best but still most likely verbs (the crappy ones ;) )

I use cheap unbranded CDR's from Asda/Walmart and Alcohol 120 to burn my Mega CD ISOs.

Work on my UK Model 1 Mega CD every time.

I tend to burn around 8x for everything.

I use AWS in ImgBurn when using Taiyo Yuuden though.

    Mmm.
