    Hi guys!

I'm trying to decide between two different N64 copiers, the CD64 and the Doctor v64. A z64 would have been sweet, but they seem to be a bit rarer. Anyways, I can't choose between the two. I can obtain both at the same price. Both have 256 mb, and the Doctor v64 has been bios modded to run backups. I'm looking into using one as a coding device and for playing some roms (mostly unreleased games such as the recently shared Dragon Sword 64) and homebrew, so it would serve two purposes. If anyone could share recommendations or experience with either unit that would be great!

If all you do is play backups, Z64.

If you do any coding at all, CD64.

The CD64 has overheating issues though, if I remember correctly, and doesn't it require a special parallel port adapter for the PC?

    If you can't get a Z64, I'd get a V64 ... and stay clear of the CD64

Buy both, sell the one you don't like.

you can install a laptop cd-rom in a CD64. If you do so, you even do not need a powersupply and the system doesn't get so hot. Best model is v1.4.

the hardware revision is printed on the mainboard near the bios. Just open the small cover and have a look to the upper left.

btw, I have to correct my recent post: according to Wikipedia later models require a powersupply: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD64_(Nintendo)

A friend of mine has such a unit with a laptop cd-rom. Personally I own a v1.4 model. It gets warm but not hot. I think the temperature is affected by the power supply and the cd-rom. Don't use a high-speed cd-rom drive. It just makes a lot of noise and produces heat.

Get cd64, install a small fan into left side to cool the voltage regulator and play :)
I have both and cd64 is way better imo (nice menu, better save support, etc).
