Don't worry about the swearing in my post. Who gives a fuck, whether it is CD, magneto optical disc, minidisc, dvd , dvd-ram, blue ray hd-dvd, and or for that matter any of the magneto optical blue ray or hd-dvd derivatives. Cause they are all yum for bitrot and for that matter fungus. But we all can be extremely lucky and have some old discs of familiar names. That are perhaps scratched and what not. But they play fine, and other times we can have the newest brand spanking what ever ray disc. And it will not do what we want it to do. And of course I am only talking about original media. And not burned copies of the discs. Since we can always have a talk about burned discs some where else than here.
He can't install to the hard drive if the disk doesn't read in the first place. Has to read all the data to install.
Just something to keep in mind, my GTA4 wont play from the disc, but i can install it and play it from the Hard Drive just fine.
Even if you can't install the game to the hard drive with the disc you have, if the 360 can atleast read the disc and what it is, you could install the game with a rented or borrowed disc and then just use your messed up disc to boot it from the hard drive. Johnny, since it never worked for you maybe the disc you got was defective to begin with and never worked at all. Remember that pressed discs don't generally just fail. As long as it is sealed well to keep out air (the disc) and it's not put in extreme temperatures or physically damaged it shouldn't just mysteriously stop working one day. I'm pretty sure a properly manufactured pressed optical disc that is taken care of will last a very long time. Same with game cartridges, proper care helps. Carts are just a good bit more durable.
I agree with you. Anyway, when i got it, it came on a lot of PS1 with some games for a very good price. I never really bothered me, since i already had that game (european version).
I agree on the whole cd being bullshit thing. My friend used to have a Playstation with a lot of games, like 20 or something (it was alot when we were like 8 years old). But only 2 or 3 always worked. We sat there hours trying to boot up the games: Playstation logo comes up.... goes to cd player menu -_- It's also the reason why I don't buy second hand games that are on discs. It's a shame how many games out there that are totally ruined for life because people either lost disc 2 of Final Fantasy VII or they have a scratch in Tekken 3 . I don't know about the future but I do hope that discs eventually get replaced with flash memory. They can make 8gb cards now very cheap which is about the same as a double layer dvd, if they would increase production they could get prices down. These cards have proven to be very reliable. Nintendo's DS uses them and I must say I've never had any trouble with a cart yet, the prices are even quite low. And about the toothpaste method: I actually tried it once for a scratched up PS2 disc and it didn't work.
My PS2 wont boot any game that even has the smallest scratch, but I can use cogswap and play them just fine. My dumb 360 will be reading a game just fine, then will randomly trough me back to the dashboard with a disk unreadable error, even with scratch free disks. My Xbox 1, gamecube, and wii will play very scratched disks without any problem. I tried the toothpaste thing once, but I think it made the disk worse.
Just out of curiosity Rika is your PS2 an older fat model? That might be the reasoning for that. For me the only system I've had problems reading a disc was my Model 2 Sega CD. I got for $10 from a pawn shop so figures it didn't work.. That problem will be fine though here in a few weeks when my x'eye arrives.
Yeah, older fat model. It plays PS1 games fine, but only one of my PS2 disks, so for the rest I have to use cogswap. Then after I get them to boot they will play perfectly.
Did you buy the game new? I've had games ruined after a bad resurfacing (mind you this was during the dreamcast era).. but the disc looked scratch free..but was actually damaged during the resurfacing process (possible heat damage) and would not load..
Brand new 2 months ago like i said its still in print. it had the xbox microsoft sealing on it and everything
The best way to check for top scratches is to hold it up to a light. The light will shine through the top scratches. Use a bright lamp light the bulb on a lava lamp but don't leave it there overnight
Sounds like you might of scratched the boot code. My friends gameshark didn't work, I used the swap disc worked fine. Turned out he had a scratch where the boot code is.
