As we know the Saturn is now 10 years old yet still impresses people with it's 2D gems. Only recently has the Sega Saturn started to be recognized for the good machine it was. In the UK most magazines dumbed down the Saturn, especially that stuck up their own arse magazine, EDGE. The only multi format mag that gave the Saturn a brake was CV&G. Anyway, people are now becoming more aware of what the Saturn really had to offer. This is where I'd like you to post pictures and comments about your fav' Saturn games. I'm going to opt for one of my favourite Saturn racers Sega Touring Cars Championship. The game was ported to the Saturn by CRI and what a balls up they made. "Hang on" I hear you say, "Didn't you say this was your favourites game?" Yes, that's right. I actually like Sega Touring cars even though CRI really buggered it up. The graphics are blocky yet quite solid looking which is a bonus. The frame rate is bloody terrible dropping to something like 15fps at times. Audio wise the game is arcade perfect though. I'm not really surprised that the frame rate drops like hell though because CRI have tried to pack everything from the arcade into this Saturn port. Just from looking at the screen shots below you can see that it looks more solid than other Saturn Racers. So why do I like this game? Well, it's the challenge!! Sega Touring Cars on the Saturn despite looking like shit actually plays very well. At first try you'll be thinking "BULL SHIT!" since the cars slide everywhere but give it time and learn the way it plays and you'll see I'm right. The game also has a tremendous amount of speed although this could just be due to crappy frame rates :smt042 Add the pumping audio and great engine effects and you'll get one hell of a rush. It's no Daytona beater but sure hell a lot of fun. It's also the ONLY (that I know of) Saturn racing game that features a rear view mirror (Even if it does mostly show distorted polygons) Take a look and enjoy these screen shots which I just took. All shots are taken from the Sega Saturn version of Sega Touring Cars Championship. Yakumo
Retro already made a thread on this, but what the hell Here are some pics from my all-time favourite game, Nights into Dreams: It's one of the few games that I can *always* pick up and play regardless of how I feel :smt023
