I wonder if it's possible to use a cf card with an IDE2cf converter instead of a hard disk on the PS2. CF cards are noiseless and don't generate as much heat as a hard disk. Has anyone ever tried that?
Provided you're using it for non-DNAS type applications like HDL etc., I'd have thought that this should work - should just be seen as a small HDD. If I have a IDE-CF adaptor lying around at home, I'll give it a try later.
Make that 3 votes for "theres no reason it shouldnt work". Give it a try and let us know how it goes!!
Nah, you could even wedge several DVD-9 PS 2 titles onto a 32GB CF. Not cost efficient maybe, but do-able. BTW, some (especially older) PS2 games are tiny - I've got a pachinko sim somewhere that's under 44KB! ps: Looks like I've lent my IDE-CF adaptor to someone (which means it's probably lost forever), so someone else will need to test this out.
Hop onto newegg.com and grab one. They are cheap. I use them for work all the time and I would love to know how it goes too.
Should work if you're just using it to read DVD images, but if you're using it to boot Linux from the HDD, keep in mind that most cf card adapters are not bootable, especially not cheap ones.
