Some changes to the rules, to further protect users. 1. Sellers must now provide picture with name for anything over $100. 2. Users with under 50 posts must provide references if they try to sell. 3. Trades- Anyone with under 50 posts must agree to send their item first if asked to do so by a senior trader. 4. For expensive items in a trade, assemblergames.com is now offering a free escrow service. You can check out the rules and refresh your memory here.
Wonderful stuff and very needed I feel! There are so many 1 post sellers trying to flog their stuff here its depressing really. Is there a way to limit access to the trading forum until certain criteria are reached? For example another forum I frequent doesn't allow new members access to the trading forums until a certain post count or membership length are reached. Seems to be working well. Just a thought, and keep up the excellent work!
I know i am a Noob here but i agree with what you are all saying.. i would not join in the hope that i can ether use a forum like this purely for selling my wares (not without an external recommendation at least) and without paying for the priviledge if so. Another forum i use (also using the Vbulletin forum software) has it set so that you have to be a member for at least 1 month, or 50 posts, or even a paid up subscriber. On these you can post in a for sale thread butnot create one. Then again, sometimes a new member may have something of value/interest to forum members but do not have any interest/knowledge of that particular item so would rather it go to some one who would benefit from it perhaps?
Sure..but its still easy to post up a bit first, introduction thread etc, just so members can get to know that person a little. And this forum isn't solely for dev/the uber rare. There's enough here for the most casual of gamers to participate in..general gaming, off topic, japan etc.
true. i was thinking more of a person who has bought a job lot/garage sale load of items and just wants to clear out some more specialised items... but i agree that if that is the case then a prior explanation wouldent hurt and would be a good thing and that may be dealt with on a special basis by the moderators etc.
Indeed, good to see this become a rule. It seems that quite a few have been joining hoping to sell / buy / trade, without taking some measures of common courtesy and/or common sense. That's why I made my banner thingy! I'm pretty sure the trade forum WAS for registered only members at one point. Yes, such a method of restriction as suggested is possible, and pretty simple, but then you get people spamming the other forums just so they can get in!
The escrow service is just that, I offer a neutral place to mail the items to and I will remail them to the parties when both items show up. This is the storefront. This is for high end trades only.
