I have the really noisy fan that comes with the first Xbox, and I'd like to switch it out for just a heatsink. The problem is, I don't have a source for a heatsink from a later revision (nothing on eBay and I don't want to sign up for Llama). Plus, I'm a do-it-yourselfer anyway. Is there an alternative heatsink anyone knows of that would be adequate?
This kind of looks like overkill. I just want a heatsink to replace the GPU fan with. This looks like the guy had to remove the brackets on his motherboard, which is way beyond what I have the time or patience for. Thanks anyway.
That's the thing, is I'd rather avoid using a fan at all if the later revisions didn't need them. I'm going to look into getting a different heatsink and trying to mod it to fit, but I really don't want to have to shave metal fins down and worry about whether or not heat distribution is good enough.
Correct me if I'm wrong but did the GPU change in the 1.0-1.1 revision? I thought that's why the fan was needed.
No, they just realized the fan wasn't needed if they made a slightly better heatsink. If I could get a newer heatsink that would be the ideal solution, but no one seems to carry them. I believe Llama has them, but $20 is a little pricey for an OEM heatsink.
I still have a cr*p load of xbox parts sitting here doing nothing, im sure i can pull the heatsink off one for you for the cost of shipping drop me a PM DD
I just received two new old stock Iceberq pro 4 kits for my Xbox 1.0. Do I need bolts and washers to attach them to the motherboard or are the plastic standoffs enough?
