I agree. I just thought it was interesting news.

About emulators "sucking", though... DosBox is probably the most useful emulator I've seen. I can actually play (good) games that normally won't run on newer hardware. It's great because I don't have to set up my old P166 to play games (there's no space to set it up, anyway).

Emulators are just another one of those "whatever floats your boat" sort of thing (apart from the piracy and all ;)).

I much prefer the Xbox pad to the DC one.

And i totally disagree about emulators. I can play any SNES/MD/NEOGEO/Arcade/PCEngine/etc game I want - for free - whenever I want - and with no hassle.

It seems strange that anyone in a video game forum would dislike emulators. Try to enjoy the games rather than the collecting.

You have a definite point. It's just not the same.

    Chankast: your warez emu.

  9. I can understand the point in emulation for ancient old consoles/computers that you're never gonna find the games for.

But DC emulation, whilst impressive, is naughty. Everyone should have DC under their telly anyways, instead of messing around trying to play the games on an Xbox.

Chankast is fine just like the other emulators.

You find a way to get your CD drive to read a Dreamcast GD-ROM disc, then tell me it's fine.

Learn to back up your own games. Do you need to put SNES carts inside your CD-Rom drive to play them too?

No, but I don't emulate games.

You think every Joe Emulator has the equipment to "back up" Dreamcast games.

    Ha.

    Agreed 100%.

Yes, for the past 4-5 years I've been living off emulators - I've probably got thousands of games by this stage, but it still just doesn't compare playing on a real system. Emulation is never perfect, and playing games on a PC when all I have is a keyboard, mouse and USB-to-PSX adaptor just ain't right!

And that's why I got a job last summer, and am now looking forward to one of AntiPasta's Mega Drives... yay!

Also, I really question how an Xbox can emulate a DC at any decent speeds - a 2GHz+ CPU is recommended for Chankast on the PC. Xbox uses a PIII 733MHz...

Indeed... it's interesting to see scads of piracy kids flock to some new emulator like it's the second coming while it runs way shitty compared to the original (no offense to anyone here, but it happened on SegaXtreme to name something)... I find that amusing :smt043

I have 2 DCs. No one needs to tell me how it's better to play the original. I already know :smt023 .

It's interesting to me how these people are actually putting this kind of stuff out for the Xbox. It also makes me that much happier that mine's been modded. I'm currently waiting for "Project Jihad". It looks like it'll be a pretty nice homebrew game.

Well i think emulators are a NICE thing to have. Think about it in 20years when you cant get a dreamcast that works you can still play the games on an emulator. Developing them now is much better as there is more information around on the specs and things. Which might not be around in a few years time.

Yeah, I don't think emulation's a bad thing either - not everyone can afford all the old consoles/computers and games they want to play, and not all of them are easy to get anyway. I would have never known about all the great games on the MSX if it wasn't for emulators. And need I explain the invaluableness of MAME?

I also wouldn't have got interested with old hardware and ROM hacking (for translations) if it weren't for the PC emulation scene either.
