I've been on a usb charging kick lately and just completed a mod on my Clie UX50 to allow it to accept power through it's USB port. I found a mod to swap out the DS lite charging port for a mini usb and now I am wondering.
Is there a similar mod for the PSP? Any way to reroute the charging circuit by the USB port? I'm trying to get rid of all of these cluttered cords and this would be a great help.

Wow that was quick! Something like that would work, but I would rather perform an internal modification that would allow the system to charge and sync data through the mini usb. If there isn't any way to do that, then I will just buy a cable such as the one you pointed out.

I'm leaving on a road trip tomorrow morning early and was thinking that I might perform some sort of mod and leave behind the power adapter.

I think the PSP draws too much power... looking at the AC adapter, it says "5V 2000mA" - maybe that's just what it's max rated at, but from memory it's quite a lot.

Good point, I hadn't even bothered looking at the voltage requirements.

That makes most of the laptop usb ports useless as most of them don't go higher than 1000mA.

This is very true, i charge my PSP via an usb data/charger cable and on my pc it works fine, but my laptop can't give ennough power, the charger led won't even come on. Yet the manual of my laptop states it's compliant to usb2.0 specifications

well if that cable mentioned above works, i cannot see how a mod would not. Doesn't strike me as too difficult even.

I actually find it quite convenient. It helps to ease the clutter of the half dozen odd chargers laying around my desk. Also when I have to skip town for a few days it's easier to just bring my laptop and a mini usb cable or two, rather than packing an extra bag full of charging cables and cradles.
