Hey all- If you can find a Gamestop with PS2 games (there's not many left, cause they stopped trading in games for it like 2 years ago), all the games are not only already cheap (the only ones I saw listed over $10 were fishing games, for some reason), but 70% off that price. I got 8 games for about $5.
That's awesome. I have 4 that are about 30 minutes away, so I'll have to give the ones I don't visit often a second look. Are they just the discs, or CIB? I don't care too much either way. I have no problem buying just the disc, plenty in my collection like that.
All my local ones did a crazy clearance of PS2 in winter. It was 25 cents per game. They threw out the cases though.
Only the bigger stores have them, and it's disc only. Not a big thing for me since I usually have them in a wallet anyway. Best bet is to look on their website for which ones have like Guitar Hero or something. The one I was at had a ton of GH games.
The GH games got traded-in abundantly whenever that fad was over. At the Exchange they're always CIB for like a dollar. The guitars are also in high supply but I'm pretty sure those cost a little more. Seems crazy that I bought the 360 GH2 bundle with the guitar for $90 whenever it came out.
Well, some brazilian stores are starting to sell brand new/sealed PS2 games for $6 each, and it's a insane low price. I'm considering picking up some games, but most of them are silly and random games, and there are not many good ones.
Which stores are you talking about? I don't seem to find games that cheap. There were some sealed stuff on some stores but they were all Greatest Hits.
Yeah, I fell for the cheap plastic guitars (which is my new band name) fad hook line and sinker. Went around to multiple Gamestops to get the GH2 bundle, and even pre-ordered Rock Band 2 and GH3 for my 360.
I think all of the ones near me have stopped selling PS2 games. I bought a ton of PS2 games from Gamestop. However, towards the end, they rarely had anything good anyway. It was mostly just shitty sports titles and stuff like that. When it comes to disc-based games, I prefer them to be CIB. For something like a PS2 game, they're going to be really cheap anyway - so why not pay a little bit more to get a boxed version?
Well, I did manage to get a copy of Dark Cloud 2 in the beginning of the year. But no luck on Yakuza 2.
Oh yeah, a lot of us fell for it. It was an awesome party game, though. I still pop it in when a few people are over. The real challenge was being able to play the guitar and sing at the same time. sonicsean, on your last trip did they have anything in particular that caught your eye? I remember getting The Guy Game CIB not too long ago for $6. Ass game, but somewhat expensive now due to all that controversy.
There is a gaming website that I really don't remember the name or the website of it, but it was selling some mediocre PS2 games for R$15-20, but I don't even know if the website still exists (last time I accessed it was last year). Most of my PS2 games are from garage sales and from thrift shops. I recommend you to do some research at your area for possibly finding good deals.
I got Tourist Trophy, Extermination (which I'd never heard of), Dark Summit (someone on Dreamcast-talk suggested it to me, for exploding cows), Virtua Fighter 4, Auto Modellista, SSX, Wave Rally, and Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2. All of those were listed at $3 or less, and I didn't know about the 70% off. I might go back in a week or so, I'm not expecting PS2 games to fly off the shelves.
I saw a guy's dumpster diving video (some people both a) dumpster dive from Gamestop, and b) make videos about it) and he got a bunch of PS2 and 360 cases and some games from there. My guess is they toss the cases for games on the PS2 just because they don't want to devote shelf space to the system.
Gamestop has been helping me build a nice PSP/UMD collection lately. The shops in my area were mostly cleared out after they ran a few buy 2 get 1 free deals on PS2 games. At this point, Madden and DJ Hero kits that look like they fell out of a truck are probably the -only- PS2 games I ever see in retail shops anymore. A certain degree of emptiness is felt walking by a shelf of Gamecube games when it's just 16 copies of Cars or a Scooby Doo game.
Extra, Americanas, those Market and Deparment stores have/had it, indeed, most or all were Greatest Hits ones.
