Ancient's VATLVA, although it's somewhat well-known. Certainly not mainstream. Multiplayer can be a riot, and it's such a unique game. Sort of a vehicular arena fighter with some shooting.
RAD is... how should I say this? Rad! Both excellent. I played the US 360 EDF game at a friends house and had to pick up the original. How about The Red Star? Maybe not uncommon, but definitely cheap and awesome.
It sure is cheap though, and no one knows much about it. The fact that you play as cats makes the sale for me.
I have this one and it's really awesome, lots of fun. Maybe if that bomberman remake had gone more like this game...
I received it in the meanwhile and spend some time with it. All I can say is that this is a real hidden gem in the PlayStation world. There are also enhanced remakes for DS and PSP (the latter will be released the day after tomorrow, on the 28th!). I completed the first 100 stages and I can tell you that some of them are hard as nails. The story is quite cute & the graphics+music theme always changes to fit with whatever Sarada (the little girl in the cutscenes) is currently doing. There's even an alpine theme with people yodelling in the background  The number of tries equals the amount of "hints" you get in each stage. So, if you tried the same stage 25 times and don't have a clue, you can choose the "hint option" and the game will show you up to 25 moves to complete the stage. When all 100 stages are finished, Ura-Mode will become available with way harder riddles and no hint option. I mastered 005/100 stages so far ^^"
Some of the PS2 505 Games are pretty good - stuff like the PAL versions of Ar Tonelico, Soul Nomad, Rule of Rose & Fire Pro Wrestling Returns... they were only released in France and/or Italy, but have English language games. Just need to keep an eye open for sellers prepared to shit abroad.
I'm not sure shitting abroad is a game I'd like to get involved in  There is a PS1 game called Panzer Bandit. I'm not sure what it goes for these days, but it reminds me of Guardian Heroes. Great game.
I just got Digital Pinball, AKA Digital Pinball: Last Gladiators on Saturn and have to say it's a pretty kickass pinball game that most people haven't heard of, plus it's pretty cheap too.
Darius Gaiden Sega Saturn, Awesome shooter, Two players...Great graphics, Musical score and can be picked up for peanuts.
I'd go with that. darius Gaiden on the Saturn really is a true classic that is very cheap. Layer Section too! Another great Taito shooter.
Darius Gaiden is a great game, but not sure if I'd exactly call it obscure. Layer Section is definitely a bit more obscure, and I've thought of it as an underrated shooter classic for a long time.
