    Hey Everyone,

Where would be the cheapest place to get security bits to open SNES/Gameboy games, etc?

    The Internet ;)

Probably eBay nowadays, since MCM stopped selling them. They're not as good as the screwdrivers, but they're harder (more expensive) to find.

Don't even bother with eBay ''gamebits'' utter junk. Round off after a few uses and most come from the sale wholesailer.

I have those same ones and have no problem with them. People need to be careful with their tools, the screws need no where near the force required to break those bits to open a cart or console.

Sure, not the highest quality, but not broken and still open everything

Any suggestions? The ones I got were utter garbage. They work sure, but they'll strip in no time because the impressions were made so slight that even at medium-light pressure it still slips. You need to like JAM it in to make sure it won't slip and start stripping.

    Trenton put it best.
Maybe you got lucky and didn't get one from the shit manufacturers everybody on eBay seems to sell.

We had a whole thread on this :

I bought some off of eBay. They did seem a bit loose, but they worked so I can't really complain.

Isnt the official name something else? as I recall, "gamebit" is a made up name for the tool. It actually goes by another name (that I cant remember right now) and is maybe why people are struggling to find them?

Also, console goods sell a complete screwdriver rather than just a "bit" - but they only have the 4.5mm ones.

But the 4.5mm is the one you are most likely to have issues with anyway - the 3.8 one for carts dont need anywhere near as much force to open.

I bought mine from GameDoctor, very high quality stuff. Was more expensive than eBay around US$10, but I wanted a good product I hate stripped screws..

If the screw is stripped isn't there a tool that can remove them?

They are talking about the opposite - the bit/tool getting stripped. Screw is much harder metal than those bits above.

Which is certainly possible with the one I bought (and linked to above). But long as you are careful its fine.

Do you have a link to buy the ones you linked above?

I prefer proper screwdrivers to "bits"

For some items, you need a screwdriver - the bits are too short or your hex driver will get in the way of a deep hole.

$10 for the screwdriver is cheap compared to the original screwdrivers!

snes and game bot game bit would be the 3.8 game bit , I got mine off eaby for 6 dollars both the 3.8 and the 4.5 , get the black ones because the 4.5 need to be really long if your opening up 2 edition n64 or certain snes consoles.
