Straight from the Xbox forums:nod: Right now is the only way to know for sure that your X360 has the 65nm Falcon chips. There was another, less drastic method involving the console's lot number, but apparently thats more like "hit and miss" than the sure thing. Anyways, here's what you have to do: How to see if you have a 65nm (Falcon) console: First, get a flashlight that is very bright. Then put your console upside down (HD side down). You should be looking at an black or grey piece of plastic which is the bottom vent. Shine the flashlight directly into the bottom of the console (it works best to sit the flashlight on the plastic). Then move the flashlight to the right side of the plastic. When you look inside of the console directly below the light, you will see a large white piece of plastic. This is the airflow shroud. You can see this highlighted in this picture: http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x127/MRCUR/S8000516-2.jpg Next, move the flashlight to the left a bit and look into the console again. You are looking for the large silver square that is directly in front of the airflow shroud. This piece will tell you whether or not you have a 65nm console. 90nm CPU Heatsink: http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x127/MRCUR/S8000516-2-1.jpg 65nm CPU Heatsink: http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x127/MRCUR/heatsink4-2.jpg (Notice that there is no heatpipe on the new 65nm CPU heatsink.) I posted this link in another thread but : http://xbox360.qj.net/Red-ring-sighted-on-Halo-3-limited-Xbox-360-consoles/pg/49/aid/103743 It could be that the falcon chips are still not helping the RRoD. If that's the case I'd say MS is truly screwed and the PS3 has a clear shot at victory. Should it be that some Halo 3 editions run on the old core then maybe not .
The PS3 needs more games. If that stupid 4hour long game with that long red-hair lady game is considered a 'flagship' title, then I think MS still has a very good chance of doing very well.
i think MS need some tutoring from nintendo on how to make a better console, and Nintendo some tutoring by MS for their customer service and online content.
Yea I know what you're saying and don't get me wrong I'm not a PS3 fanboy. Honestly I've used my 360 way more than my PS3 despite having the latter longer and having more games it. But if MS continues with the RRoD problem on the new chips people will certainly be put off and they may very well opt for a PS3 instead.
not really. Losing 300-400 bucks once doesn't make you want to spend another 500-600 for a console with no games and a shitty controller Sony is (in my view) pretty fucked and will have to live in the shadows of XBOX 360 and the Wii until towards the end of its console's life-span. My antennas tell me they ll do alright in the PS3's final years, but I guess i m not as proficient as some other members in predicting the future.
so what? not everyone is made out of money I know people who own 10 gamecubes or more, because they re collectors. That doesn't make them the norm, nor did it help the 'cube win the war On a note of irony, Assembler, having posted that video, DID buy a 360 Halo edition - and those aren't proven quality exactly Hence, even people who promise not to buy another 360 will eventually get one - the games are just too good!
Shitty controller aside, people are going to be thinking "get a 360 that could fail, or a PS3 that'll get the same port a little later". The PS3 does have a number of things going for it (free online, Blu-ray, doesn't brick etc). The original IPs on the system so far have sucked donkey balls, but if MGS4 and 2-3 more got good reviews the tide could turn. But hey, what do I know
Barc0de is right. When you have a 400$ system fail on you, your first thought won't be, well lets go out and buy a 600$ system now! Alot of Xbox 360 consoles, don't have any problems at all. Sure the PS3 has a better record on quality of the hardware not spontaniously dieing, but wtf is there to play? Though maybe I shouldn't be talking because once Gears of War hits the PC.... what will I be playing on the 360 then? Probably nothing exclusive. Seriously for me, take away GoW, and there isn't anything worth it for awhile longer anyway. Ninja Gaiden 2 will be tempting but god knows whent that's coming.
Gears of War is the game for the 360. Even when the PC version his the markets, I m a big fan of split-screen two-player co-op, hence I won't migrate any time soon to the PC build. Also, I probably can't afford to buy a PC that can run Gears at the resolution at which my 360 is running it. Don't worry though, Gears of War 2 will surely live to its name and we all know the 360 is getting it first. - The 360 for me is a platform for high-end gaming. I don't intend to use a PC for gaming (new games). They cost too much and are a hastle to maintain in top working condition. I like keeping my PC for working, busines and the odd oldie game.
Well the thing is... What could Gears of War 2 possibly have to offer in the multiplayer arena that won't be possible on the PC GoW thanks to the editor and modding? GoW PC will be all I need. :O Plus I need to get ready for StarCraft 2 anyway. Certainly GoW is the Xbox 360 game. However lately many have been blinded by a recent average game released that's been overhyped and sort of abandoned GoW on 360.
