China not respecting copyright? Does this sort of thing honestly make the news in Japan?

Maybe it's coming faster than one would imagine. There were many people, intelligent people, in the 1920's and 1930's who assumed Italian fascism and German nationalsocialism would last for another 50 years if not longer. The cold war was "only" granted a 40 year lifespan, but it could have been much longer.

China has so many people and such an economical impact on the world that I don't think they can hold up their totalitarian regime of violence and political oppression forever. North Korea again is an entirely different story: Since there's almost no economical value in the country, absolutely NOBODY is actually interested in a "liberation", no matter how poor the people might be.

China is a worry, they copy everything to get ahead.

    Weapon, car, cpu.

Really they will dominate us all as they have no laws except to dominate.

Look at them imposing on korean and Japanese fishing.

China is a big problem... we should be trying to cripple their economy as much as possible before it eats us up.

They do it in every industry as well, literally, even the obscure ones such as Hobby Grade Remote Control Vehicles.

The copied a Tamiya on-road road chassis, made it from weaker components but sold the kit for half of the Tamiya kit. The only reason Tamiya hasn't gone out of business is the parts they use are superior and they don't break nearly as easily.

I agree this is a massive issue and I'm kind of surprised more nations don't press China to get a handle on their copyright infringements.

Be realistic. They disregard copyright on such a wide scale because people buy this stuff anyway and we all depend on the place for ultra-cheap manufacturing. This isn't just about trashy knock-offs - at practically every level of industry companies who manufacture in China make and sell their products for cheaper than companies who make the same stuff in Western nations. Until that changes there's no leverage.

It is changing, somewhat. Workers rights are being challenged by the workers more than they used to. It all depends on the levels of income and accessibility to communication, both of which are increasing rapidly in China. Of course it is still a a while off though. It will be interesting to see what interaction such a large population and country size (in respect to accumulation of personal wealth) will have vs social rights. That is, whether it will come to a head much quicker (despite such a large population to distribute wealth between, contrary to smaller Western populations) than western countries because the West already has social rights, and the role of modern communications technology .

I wonder, if the pace will be quicker due to the West's established human rights and technology, what sudden situations will the (already somewhat authoritarian) government be forced into? They've made a lot of compromises to the Soviet ideal to great economic effect, so how far off is pure democracy and capitalism?

That's how you compete with China. You can't out manufacture them (since they make their crap from garbage with essentially slave labor.) So instead you make the quality of your product better, make it last longer, etc.

I've always wondered if the Chinese buy into the blatant lies. Clearly the Gundam franchise has existed long before this supposed "original" design came about that is just a color scheme away from being an RX-78. I've read repeatedly that this sort of thing is common place in China where they tend to spout BS about how they created this and that and America/Japan/Korea stole it.

We do depend on China for ultra-cheap manufacturing, however it is the rest of the world that sends China designs and such to build these things as well as materials. The Chinese demonstrate time and time again that the best they are willing/able to do is to clone it and use inferior materials to build it. Far, far, far inferior. Like balsa wood to build a house or White Fir (which is mostly used for paper products). I don't think the Chinese have the intellectual infrastructure in place to even begin to build anything of an original design that won't fall apart in 6 months. At least if it isn't stolen.

I get the feeling the US might bring manufacturing gigs back home given China's Yuan keeps getting stronger and the American dollar is almost worth less than the Canadian dollar if it hasn't dropped already. No offense to Canada but that doesn't seem quite right.

They do, but again why put that into a product that a US company is asking for them to make for nothing. Everything pretty much is manufactured in some way in china from those cheap 5cent shit you get at a party store up to high end electronics.

Some bigger things maybe, hopefully in the green sector but blame stupid shits for dragging their ass on them, but general manufacturing probably not. China has a pretty sizable grip on the US's balls due to how much debt it holds.

Also Canada is close but not above. It jumps from time to time to go above $1 but for the most part it stays at near parity to the USA ($1Can = $.96-$.99 USD). It's not really Canada's fault. It's banking sector is not up shits creek and it has desirable exports.

Makes you miss the days when everyone thought Japan would dominate everything. At least they make a quality product.

Prime time news. They did a special on it, and actually called the amusement park which is housing, "Robot". According to them, "He is our original character, but doesn't have a name. He just goes by 'Robot' ".

They won't -- they will just further sanction Chinese imports. Obama has been threatening to do it for a while if China does stop fucking up their exchange rate.

I'm pretty sure China wasn't the first country to invent perishable goods. Other countries are just as guilty of making shoddy products that last a couple of years when they COULD make them to last many more years.

They make cheap shitty products because foreign companies go there and PAY THEM to make cheap shitty products. They're just collecting a wage... not much more.

The problem (the one in this thread, not the plethora that surround the place) is that their regulations are non-existent, and it's not just for perishable foods. Do you not remember all the tainted dog food and lead-filled toys from 3 or so years ago?

No. Foreign companies outsource them, more or less. These aren't foreign factories. They are Chinese run, from the ground up, and the regulatory nightmare is to blame.
