Chip Quick - on a budget

We all know chip quick is some expensive stuff. It does work and it has its place in the IC world. I wanted to share a little secret about how to get something very similar for cheap.

Do an ebay search for woods metal alloy. You can find it in ingot or stick form. I've only used a stick because its a lot easier to deal with than ingot. You can try to shave off pieces buts its not the easiest. I take a plastic card and fold it into a V shape. Using my iron I then melt the end of stick so it falls into the folded card. It forms to the bottom and makes a nice small long piece that is much more usable.

Make sure to have proper ventilation, and don't inhale any fumes. There is cadmium and lead in the metal mixture which isn't healthy for us. So take proper precautions.

I have a 1/4 lbs stick that I feel like I've had forever.
