Hi guys, I have recently pulled out my PS2 and I remember it was chipped, modded or hacked or whatever. I was way to young at the time to know how to hack anything or download. I would say the modification was done in 2004/05. I wanna know what you guys think could have been done to it eg mcboot or something.
modchip, or a hd loader kind of thing. MCboot wasn't alive back then. But you can boot it up, and see what its boots?
Thanks a lot man Also I reckon it was a modchip because i remember the bloke saying he was going to chip it. So basically i am able to download a game and burn it on to a DVD-R and it should run?
yeah you can make a backup from a disc, and burn that on a empty dvd. it depends a bit what kind of chip you have in your system, as some have features that the other doesnt have. but a dvd-5 version of a ps2 game will probably work out of the box
Another quick question, will Action Reply Max work with this modchip or does it need something else to run?
Boot machine up. If there's some fancy logo instead of the usual PS2 boot up then that should Identify the chip. No reason why Action Replay wouldn't work. Um... can't you find all of this info from a 5 second Google search? (all the info you need is there, in quantity) Either way, everything should load unless it's one of those early Victorian chips where you press the power button 10 times (5 for Ps1) and do a rain dance to the tree deity hoping it will work, at which point the disc tray will fly out and your disc will still be spinning wildly. But I doubt it's one of those...
Thanks man for this, from what I remember there was no boot logo nor was there any special menus, unless there are ways of getting to these that I wasn't told about. All I know is I could play burned games that I used to get from the bloke that chipped my ps2.
The sure way to identify it, is to open the console. Depending on your model, it could be either very easy or very difficult. Slimline consoles are easy to take apart, but just rember to not tug on the ribbon flat cable that connects the optical block (laser) to the mainboard because that could cause it to detach from the hard plastic tab at the optical block. The flat cable would then touch the disc's surface, causing circular rings. After all, there are many modchips that function similarly out there, including clones. And clones of clones.
