Thanks, I'll keep you in mind :) I don't think I lack the artistic skills, but mainly the time/preparedness since I don't have much content to present yet.

Sure, web and app developers for startups. That's all anyone will care about for the next 5 years. To some extent there are (web based) enterprise programming jobs--if you meet the 1000 obscure qualifications. I had an enterprise job (ERP), it sucked, so not really looking to get back into that. All systems software jobs today are super competitive/discriminatory and like 60 miles in any direction from me. As for computer engineering, it's either defense or manufacturing since in any other industry it's cheaper to buy a product and support than to build and maintain one >_< Even electrical engineering here is dominated by rustbelt crap like power systems and telecom which of course I didn't choose to specialize in.

Seriously who'd think there'd be so much demand for people to design boring redundant things, and so little demand for people to design cool new things? AMERCA Y U NO MAKE SENSE?

Very true, it's a balancing act. None of these projects are about making serious money, they're just about paying my bills while I work on them, and a little padding to help me buy equipment. Hopefully if any come to fruition I'll earn a some low-effort income after the fact, which is critical to my goal of eventually working on projects that are more "out there"/unfundable.

If I developed a PCE anything it'd be a solid state CD emulator, not some kind of USB CDROM adapter. I'm not sure how feasible it is though..

Ah, well the reason I mentioned using a real CD-ROM drive over solid-state was because it allows owners of existing CD-ROM games easy access to their collection without having to rip everything. I also suppose a USB interface would allow any USB device to be connected hardware wise. HDD, CD-ROM, etc. Saves you from having to make all kinds of connectors. If you would seriously consider this project, you could always make USB an option on Kickstarter if your really worried. Such as, if funding surpasses some goal, it will be added as a feature.

But the main reason I'm for the PC Engine device idea is because no mods would need to be done by the users. Since all systems have an EXT out, you just need a small adapter that plugs into the right pinouts on the back of the unit (like a regular NEC Bank/Interface adapter) and your all set. I think a big reason people wouldn't invest in a project, is if they had to do soldering, opening up, or any kind of invasive work on their machine.

I can't think of any system that's more "out of box" ready for such a mod since the PC Engine CD-ROM probably (I assume) consists of just a physical CD-ROM, BIOS (Stored on cards you can just buy and plug into your PC-Engine), and perhaps more RAM. No proprietary CPU's, Chips, or other misc hardware that might be impossible to source or reverse. All you'd need to do is figure out how to convert commands to and from the CD-ROM to the PC-Engine. As well as additional stuff if your running games from ISO's or some solid-state/HDD system.

Totally, the kind of shit some say is "changing the world" will go down in history as the biggest waste of money ever

And you know whats really fucked up? a friend I have in finance told me these app "companies" arent disclosing profits anymore because that way they can inflate the price even more, then they flip it, make a ton of cash, the buyer writes it off after the app goes nowhere and everybody wins, except the stockholders of the buyer.

Anyway, remember the PM I sent you before? those guys are still there.
