seems like Sony could be in hot water with the Church of England after including a photo realistic recreation of Manchester Cathedral in Resitance fall of man without permission. The article http://uk.news.yahoo.com/pressass/20070609/tuk-church-attacks-sony-over-video-game-6323e80.html
Isn't that like attacking film makers because they record a realistic picture of say, the Eiffel Tower on their film while filming in Paris? Edit: I RTFA, stupid anyway.
Its a little different because a church is a religious place and thought to be sacred/holy by many, plus you`d need permission to use the eiffel tower in anything too i`d imagine.
Yeah, especially in France actually as there are strict laws about obtaining images of people without their permission. So you can often be approached by people in France if they think that you've taken a photo of them. The same applies to filming anywhere in most cities around the world. If for any commercial reason, you need a permit and to have approached the town hall about it. You'll often see at the end of films credits "special thanks to the people of xxxxx town / city / country" In this instance the CoE (Church of England) is outraged because they felt that the use of a church property for such a violent video game was inappropriate. Sony has stated that they did seek permission, but my guess is that the CoE (being what it is) were imagining a quiet game of chess with their property as a calming back drop and not WWIII.
We all know I hate Sony but here I'm siding with them. Especally with one of the few games on the PS3 actually worth playing. I never mentioned this before I'm a youth pastor. I was ordained a Minister in 2002 and have been serving a small group of teenagers for 2 years. There have been Halo shoot outs in my church and nobody complained Churches all over the country are following our example and having Halo Parties as well. What these churches don't realize is that this behavior drives people away from the church. Granted Jesus wouldn't play an FPS but who would want to play video games with Jesus he'd kick all our asses and activate cheat codes not even the developers know about.
God forbid, church and violence? who ever heard of the crusades! ..but aliens around a church? that's just heresy isn't it
They could be demons for all we know. The leaders of the modern church are out of touch with society.
To be fair its a bit naughty. I can see both side of the arguement> Would it not of been easyer just to make up a church rather then base it on a real one?
after i posted this last night, i saw the footage on bbc news, it really is unquestionably Manchester cathedral, they showed footage of the church and in game next to each other. Expect a kind donation by Sony to get them out of trouble. maybe some bibles and Sony Praystations too
I haven't blessed by PS2 yet. You know what's awesome about being a pastor? I can write off all my game purchases as ministry expenses.
