Class action lawsuit against SCEA is underway apparently... Can anybody here confirm if in fact this is true or not? I just got an email from http://www.ps2settlement.com/ . Here is the body of the email or you can check out the site for full details. The lawsuit is basically against sony for making a crappy laser unit for the myriad of DREs people get or how it scratches CDs/DVDs. This email was in my spam folder so I don't know if I should consider it legit or not, but has anyone here recieved a similar email? Here is the body of the email I recieved: I own a 390001, so I guess I'm elligible.
I'm guessing it's void for modded unit (if this whole thing is true). I guess I can send my 30001 unit...
phh, $50 and a free game is like saying were sorry so pleas take one of our free games and possibly spend that 50 on another, very similar to what nintendo did when it got busted fro price fixing in the late 80s.
I'm sure it's real..it looks much like the http://www.musiccdsettlement.com anyways. These things only make the lawyers rich. Also, your payout is determined by the number of people entered. My dad did the RIAA class action lawsuit and I forgot how much he made, but it was so little that he took his time to get off to cash it.
Good god, this is one of the worst "bend you over" class action settlements I have ever seen. I hope that this gets rejected by the court, but I doubt it since there would need to be a competent judge who understands the difference between shipping models in order to do so. This settlement does absolutely nothing for those people who are truly suffering from the DRE's (i.e. those with the older consoles), yet forces them to be part of the class, and hence, screwed. The only way to actually get something out of it is if you took your PS2 and had it fixed (but only at an authorized repair shop), or if you contacted Sony directly to have it fixed but didn't due to the cost. Then, you just need to submit proof of all of that (i.e. receipts for both the console AND the repair, and hope that Sony's customer service database has your name in it). Screw game development, I should have gone into law...
Yes! 50 dollars and a copy of "Intellivision Lives!"(because you just know it's gonna be something lousy) for all! Yeah, that'll makeup for a defective product you paid 300 or so for...
Yes, it's real. It's an out of court settlement. Sony are denying responsibility but offering the three options as 'an act of good will'
YAY! Looks like tha cash I get from the settlement can pay for the dead laser on my second and even shittier PS2 :110:
