Yo! Last year I had a huge trip over the US, and one of the places I've been is Classic Gaming Expo held in Las Vegas. That was a blast due to many reasons... okay, I'll let you see the photos before I tell you the rest of my story: Well, this excibition was a cool thing to me. When I was a teenager we didn't have any official licensed game-related stuff in Russia (all 90-s). Literally, all we had were: Chinese clones of Famicom, Russian clones of Famicom called Dendy, Chinese clones of Sega Mega Drive, and later - Chinese clones of Sony PlayStation. And, of course, buggy clones of cartridges, and extremely poor translations of PS1 games. But I knew that there are original games and consoles in civilized countries, there're various add-ons for these consoles (like a lightgun, yay!), and game soundtrack cds! And I remember I had a dream like "when I grow up I'll buy all this stuff". When PayPal came to our country (in 2006, could you believe?), I began collecting stuff. During these years I've got hundreds of rare game soundtracks, 'cuz I'm a music fan. And I've been in touch with many game composers. And one day I started meeting them in person - I've traveled around Europe, met my idols and filmed interviews with them (and even multicam live gigs). So the United States were my next step. When I've been compiling my trip plans I realized that CGE is gonna be in Las Vegas at the exact days when I arrive there and have spare time. Totally coincidental! That was a chance for me to see the Sega Neptune mock-up, the one that was photographed in 95 and announced in various magazines. For me as for sega-fan that was one of that dream-come-true moments! It appeared that CGE is not only the museum, but a bazaar as well. Too bad (or good) I don't have space in my bag (it was full of video-equipment), because I wanted to buy a lot of stuff! But I've had a good time there: I've met Tommy Tallarico, Pat the Nintendo Punk, Roger Hector, have touched the Neptune, made a lot of photos and videos, including 3D with binaural sound (using in-ear microphones). This time I upload only photos I took. Later I'll show you some videos that need to be edited (with some cool time-lapse sequences). So stay in touch! Oh, and if somebody is interested, here's a short "interview" with the guy who wrote the soundtrack for Vectorman games:
Back in the day Vectorman was definitely one of my most favorite Mega Drive games, and man that soundtrack..... legendary! So thank you for conducting this interview with the man behind the notes, very interesting to hear a bit (did I say a bit? man with almost half an hour let's call it a lot) of the story behind all this!
Thanks man! Interview with Frank Klepacki is gonna be made some day If you're a fan of System Shock 2 or Thief, I met the guy who was involved to these games too:
