Spent this afternoon cleaning up my childhood Mega Drive collection. I have been collecting missing manuals and buying new plastic cases from eBay to restore them to a like-new condition. 80% are flawless, but a few are still missing the manual, or the case is tatty. Also noticed that a standard DVD sized 'case wrap' or clear sleeve, fits the MD cases perfectly! Has made the collection look awesome and protects them from dirt! I have OCD i think...... :redface-new:
Man, I wish we had plastic wraps for Mega Drive cases here. We have plastic covers for everything you could think of but I've yet to find anything that would fit a Mega Drive case. An A5 size cover is perfect but they only make them thick enough to hold 10 sheets of paper. Japanese DVD sleeves are made to fit DVD cases perfectly so they don't fit on to Mega Drive boxes either. The search continues.
I have a Japanese game in my collection (Dick Tracy) and the sleeves fit it perfectly. Just get some from eBay. Come to think of it i believe i bought the Blu-Ray sized sleeves....
Makes me think of my Psychic Force Puzzle Taisen. I don't much care about that game since real Puzzle Bobble has better entries, but its case is so awful nobody would want it. On the other hand that also means it's not really worth buying a replacement for. Worse being an oversized two-disc case not used in USA. *sigh*
I don't use EBay, way too many dickheads on it plus I hate EBays money grabbing system. I'll just keep looking around for some. Thanks for the info though
Hi mate i am thinking of doing the same for my collection of mega drive games and where did you buy the new cases and clear sleeves i want to do that with my stack of pal dreamcast games two. Any info on this would be cool thanks.
Out of curiosity- any tips for tracking down nice MDJP cases? in the US at least, our cases are different internally on the way it grips the cartridge. Best I can figure is going out of my way and buying a bunch of cheap garbage jp games just to strip them for the cases. any ideas? Also, are MDEU cases the same as JP?
I think I’ve found what might be idea for the job - http://page21.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/j172000642
I bought these cases: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-x-NEW-S...ideo_Games_Video_Games_JS&hash=item2eb4ac0d15 and these sleeves: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Blu-Ray-D...t=UK_CDsDVDs_DVDs_DVDs_GL&hash=item4abacfe575 The cases are the 'later' style, like the ones that came with the 'blue' covers. The opening is more to one side rather than in the center and the cartridge holder/manual clips are different than the original type. But they are all official cases and come with brand new SEGA sticker/seals! Good stuff! The older style covers fit in them fine. Had to replace 6 of mine as the clear sleeve was ripped or damaged. The same sleeves fit Dreamcast and Large PlayStation type cases (the standard UK type) and also fit DVD cases.
I have over 1000 Mega Drive games, but a lot of them are in less than desirable condition. You don't have to have a large collection when the games are in as good condition as yours in order for the collection to look spectacular! Those so look so nice in those plastic sleeves, well done.
I feel the same as you for my Genesis games, they have to be in the most perfect condition I can have. The only game right now that I don't have the box is Crusader of Centy (Soleil) (which is rare here) and came in a cardboard box Damn SEGA why they decided to make cardboard box. The only game that is nice in cardboard box is Vectorman as the cover use a printing technique that couldn't be done on regular paper, it's kind of flashy / glossy. Anyway, I'll definitely look at those plastic bags!
Yeah WTF! I have Sonic & Knuckles in a cardboard box, i've had it from new (was about 10 at the time) and it's tatty as hell! Cannot find a decent copy of this anywhere! Sega also continued on the cardboard theme with Saturn games - most PAL games have terrible boxes these days!
