Looks like 80% certain that I am going to Tokyo in September to visit a mate and climb Mount Fuji before the routes close in October, anyone done it and can give any advice?

More importantly, anyone want to meet up and have a beer?

I only went to the base/shop since I was with missus.
If you are plan to climb the Fuji mountain just check the weather and season as on that day it was very foggy while we were driving to it but when we got there the weather cleared out before covered with fog again about 40 min later...

    I'm in for the beer.

And unless they've changed, you can still go in September. 3rd week or so is the last before it's closed for the season.

Cold as fuck up there, btw. You'll need quite the jumper at least.

I find it interesting how people somehow fall off the path and die each year.

There was this stunt for some liquor or beer.. they made these guys carry a fucking piano to the top for a commercial. Paid them good, but imagine moving a piano up that fucker...

    Thanks for the replies!

Sadly looks like they are closing earlier due to the weather, and I can't get there in time, so going to wait until October when the air fares are nearly 50% cheaper and go to Tochigi instead...

GP: will pm you when I know the dates I will be there!

Far more kill themselves: suicide by exposure. No thanks.

What I find more shocking is that every new years several old people choke on mochi and die.

Gunma has more fun mountains and more onsens, I've never been refused entry to an onsen yet, although i prebook via Jalan.net.

Nikko is a nice place although a little touristy, loved the mountains and the seperate roads to go up and down mountains.

I'm down for a beer if I'm still here in September.

By the way, if you do get a chance to go to Fuji, check out Aokigahara(青木ヶ原)Seems a few people here have already mentioned about it.

    Current unconfirmed dates are:

    Arrive 30th October
    Return 13th November

Waiting for confirmation of availability at a Ryokan I found in Asakusa, it's £22 a night, might end up sharing a room with some random person, but can't complain with the price.

Awesome, can't go wrong with Aokigahara, beautiful forest, the ice caves and dead Salary Men! :-|

Shame, would have been good for us all to meet up again.

Just waiting for final confirmation at the Ryokan before booking my tickets. As it's a shared room I had to broach the subject of me having tattoo's, if I was in a room on my own I could cover them up.
