My god, bad news! http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/top/breaking-clover-studio-is-dead-207026.php Damn you, capcom. Well, at least we can hope to get some protos and devkits around.
Considering the fact their in the same building and all capcom employies. I dout you will see anything leaked. Anyways. Noooooooo.......... This could lead to some of capcom staff leaving. There was a nice interview in the latest PSM with the head of Clover studio. Pretty much the reason the studio exsist is because him and others at capcom wanted to do more original ideas. So they got to found Clover.
Despite their short exsistence, they quickly became one of my favorite modern developers. More quality and origional titles made in 2 years than EA has made in a decade.
This looks like a sign of where the industry is heading.... What? I though viewtiful joe was a sales success! If not, why they did a cartoon for?
I was bummed to hear this news. But some site is posting that the possible reason for the closure of the studio was becasue the team wanted to do stuff that was not connected to capcom so they can become more independent. Still a huge shame, they really did try to create something new each time. Killer 7 and vietiful joe will always leave an impression on me.
Exactly. Also don't forget that Okami was just released. Quite a shame really. They "kill" the creative people, but still keep the ones that made terrible stuff like "Final Fight Streetwise".
Sad, but game companies aren't into developing games for charitable purposes. Sales figures must be met.
Depressing, but true. It isn't Capcom's fault that CLOVER titles evidently weren't selling. EA et al churn out crap, but it's what people buy. Blame the casual gaming consumer market. Edit: Maybe not as bad as it seems = http://www.insertcredit.com/archives/001350.html
Maybe its just me, but I think focusing on Viewtiful Joe may have been a bad decision for them (Personally, I hated the series, but that is just my opinion). Okami was good, although God Hand was meh.
I'm not exactly a fan of the Viewtiful Joe series either, but this is bad news for the gaming world regardless of whether Clover is dissolved back into Capcom or its staff form a new and totally independent company. Also, I should just point out that Clover had nothing to do with killer7 - that was actually the work of stablemates Grasshopper!
According to a report this morning, it's been rumoured that Hideki Kamiya will be leaving Capcom following the dissolution of Clover to form a new independent team with their former leader. Even though most of his contributions were left on the cutting room floor - as part of the "version 1.5" prototype - in favour of Shinji Mikami's later alternate direction (though fortunately his better ideas were recycled for its sequel and Parasite Eve, which had been developed by a group of ex-Capcom programmers), I personally feel that Kamiya was the real inspiration behind the sequel to Biohazard, so if this happens to be true I'll grow even more impatient to see what this promising new company will come up with...
