Here's the Cobra Command VHD aka Thunder Storm played on my Victor HD-9500 VHD player. It's sequential, so each sequence of death scenes comes after its respective level. This version does not include the cassette tape, and there's no MSX or Sharp X1 label on the disk, so I believe it's cross-compatible. Video runs at 29.97 FPS, 640x480 video (uprezzed to 720p).

    Excellent, thank you!!!

The Mega CD version looks so ugly in comparison lol still it's more than playable.

Wow, you even bothered showing how the actual VHD disc looks like. That's cool.

Exactly. Since they come in those plastic caddy casings, they are probably very fragile. Not talking just about scratches, but fingerprints and dust as well.

I'm still amazed by the whole process of loading the disc on the player, and changing the disc side. It's really fascinating, specially when we remember the technology is from the late 70's / early 80's.

It's amazing that they still play. Cobra Command/TS was scratchy and skippy at first, but it might have just been dust on the disk, as with later plays it seemed to work fine. Road Avenger was playing near perfectly after a while. Star Arthur Legend, Xevious Maps, and Time Gal are holy grails for the VHD system, but I'm happy just having these two. Gotta frame em and hang em

Had no idea this existed. I played Cobra Command/Thunderstorm many times in the arcade it was so fun! It looks like this MSX with disc VHD player came out in 1985! Here in the US there was only very loose talk about home laserdisc games. It looks like Japan actually had it!

Since you already managed to preserve those videos by capturing them with current tech, go ahead and frame them. I can bet they'll last even longer that way.

We did have the Laseractive in the USA, which was something like $2200 retail, plus a hundred per game. Germany also had the LDG system that only saw 3 releases - Dragon's Lair, Thayer's Quest (Kingdom the Far Reaches), and Space Ace which had no cover.

But the equivalent of a VHD game in the USA would be for the CED system, and for that all I can find is an NFL Football arcade game that ran off a CED player.
