I like Coffee, quite a bit, thought I'd make a thread about it. Discuss what brands of Coffee you like, what machine you have, how you like your coffee (black, flat white, 6 sugars ect).. What kind of coffee machine do you have? Drip, Peculator, Press, Pod or Espresso? For my self, I'm looking to upgrade from pods to a nice Espresso machine, thinking maybe the Breville Barista Express (it's programmable yay). For a somewhat automatic machine it's pretty cheap (AUD$600), however this is pretty much the only machine I've seen in person in my price range.
Black coffe, very black. Not tea Hot, but i don't mind of cold. Press machine. One of my fav' coffe is the one of next day, when you let your coffee in the press, and so it infuses all night. No sugar, no milk. In a mug. With a "square of chocolate" (dunno if it's the good word). Not too black chocolate, 'bout 50%. On of the best with coffee is "Lindt Excellence Noir Fleur de sel", a black chocolate with a bit of salt "crisps". Yes yes, it's wonderful.
Cappuccino, one sugar. I also love mocha and can deal with a latte if nothing else is available (fairly common in cafe's here). On the topic of coffee, here's something interesting I discovered when I moved to Tokyo; when you go to a coffee shop and order an iced coffee, it comes out black (and obviously cold) and you have to put shitloads of those stupid little cream thingoes and sugar into it just to make it even remotely consumable. In Australia, when you go to a coffee shop and order iced coffee it comes out as a rather sweet-tasting yet strong milky coffee drink, often a bit chunky with the ice having been partially crushed up (I think the whole thing is blended). It's basically like a latte slurpy, but much better than it sounds. Also another interesting thing: Starbucks basically doesn't exist in Australia, because there's an infinitely better chain called Gloria Jean's that has driven them out of business. I honestly don't care at all because it's leagues superior.
I drink lots of coffee lately, to get me going in the morning mainly I prefer a deep dark roast in morning and in the middle of day a medium roast with milk, if I have not already opted to drink tea in the day. Always trying different brands as well. One that is popular where I'm from is called kicking horse, 454 Horsepower is the current one, It's really strong so far, and middle of day I'm less picky.
Cappuccino! I have a Lavazza capsule/pod machine that is just great. It has a milk frother on the side which comes very handy for cappuccino with fresh milk (instead of powdered milk capsules like other brands). Lavazza A Modo Mio Minu My cappuccino preparation is: 1 'Dolce' capsule (Lavazza blend) 2 sweeteners (on the cup where the coffee will fall) Ultra skimmed milk (the less fat, the more froth!) 2 tsp of sugar (mixed with the milk) A couple of drops of vanilla extract (mixed with the milk) Once done, sprinkle Cadbury hot chocolate powder on top
4 shots of espresso over ice, no milk, no sweetener. Then i drink it through a straw as fast as possible. Good for a quick pick-me-up.
I have my own blend of coffee (I own a small cafe/restaurant in a small airport). It's roasted by my local coffee roaster and I buy about 10lbs a week. It's pretty cool getting such freshly roasted coffee (it's roasted to order). It is 60% Ecuadorian and 40% Brazilian bean and is fair trade, and organic. I drink it every morning before I leave home, from a french press. I drink it in my bunn drip coffee machine at work, just with a little milk. I like my coffee simple.
I work at an organic market, we do a lot of roasting in house. But it's not as good as the local coffee companies. In Baltimore we have Zekes, And Baltimores Best Coffee. Which Honestly is the best haha. They have keurig options which work for me when i have some 4-5 am shifts. Although my favorite of all are, iced Dirty Chais & and Carmel lattes. dear lawd yes
Coffee to fuel me while I work: Anything that got caffeine as long as it's black. No cream/sugar/whatnot. Hot, cold, warm, "lost half it's volume drying on the table for 6 hours", don't care. Coffee to enjoy at breaks, give a lil' kick: Aeropresse with espresso grind, brewed not too hot (~80C, just when it starts to boil a little at the bottom). That's fast to do, fast to clean, cheap and portable. Best taste/price coffee ever. It makes coffee that tastes a lot like it smells, so get beans that smell good! It looks like a reverse french press, and that's what it is basically, but it makes stronger yet less bitter coffee, in smaller quantity. It's almost bitter-less if done fine. You add hot water to taste for a less strong taste or "americano" coffee. Coffee for the morning/evening, to enjoy: Espresso, not the god-awful pods that pollute as much as they possibly can. Ideally a mix of well-roasted and slightly roasted grains for the best balance between kick and aromas. At home I use a machine that's not very fancy but that's tamper free, which is great because it's clean and there's noting to really wash. At school (grad student) we got a proper espresso machine. I believe that, while a cappuccino or latte or whatever is totally enjoyable, you can't say you love coffee unless you also like it black. Otherwise, you like "neurostimulant concoctions that hopefully don't taste too much like coffee", which is fine as long as you don't pretend you "like coffee so much" afterwards. PS: I basically lived off coffee for 3 years. 8 to 16 cups a day. Sleep was important, but school was importanter.
Chilled coffee made in a French press, black with ice. I used to be all about fancy coffee drinks. Not so much anymore.. but a caramel hazelnut black eye still hits the spot every now and then: - Coffee ice cubes - 2 shots of espresso - Chilled coffee - 2 pumps hazelnut - 2 pumps caramel syrup - Slightly above avg. amount of creamer for balance 1.) Fill cup up to brim with coffee ice cubes 2.) Add hazelnut and caramel syrup 3.) Pour 2 shots of hot espresso on top (gently stirring with a long teaspoon to dissolve the caramel syrup ) 4.) Add in your cream and chilled coffee 5.) Stir and enjoy
Wawa makes a damn good pumpkin spice frozen latte. I had one maybe a week ago w/ extra espresso. Good stuff man
Italian espresso, no sugar, no milk, pure. I also really like traditional turkish coffee, very strong in taste.
