I got a Colecovision today and I want to use composite cables. I'm planning on doing this to my NES-NTSC toploader too but I want to learn more about it first. Any tips? If you know of any guides for the Coleco mod that would be appeciated greatly. Obviously RF will give a shitty display so if you have done this mod please let me know what I need to do. that is the model version I have also, what games should I get first? I have Donkey kong
An s-video mod should give you a better picture, such as this: http://www94.pair.com/jsoper/cv_svideo.html If you really want composhite, there's a link there as you have to do it anyway. The above was easily found with a 2 second Google, by the way! Yes, you'll find one for the NES-101, too - or use an original NES, which has composite out
and i think composite will be as crappy as the rf and s video may not be much better. Regardless, I had my chance to get a sony tv with s video capabilities for 15$ at the goodwill and I passed it up so I will have to wait for another chance for S.
Composite is a fair bit better than RF by virtue of less noise and better color but S-Video is a lot better on the Colecovision than composite is. I'm rather tempted to see about replacing the switches on my controllers but I'm not exactly sure what they're called.
I have done a few composite AV mods on PAL Colecos. The quality is like chalk and cheese. I know the NTSC model is different. I believe for the NTSC there is a component video mod which is supposed to be heaps better.
