I'm looking to upgrade my 42" teac display in the next 6months and am stumped on what display to get. I am running a 5.1 setup and will soon be replacing the speakers with Warfdale Diamond series so sound is no problem.. Watch a LOT of movies (usually one a day after work, sometimes 3 or 4 on the weekends hehe), my current set is a 3d edge lit led pannel, led is a must due to power and heat also I find a lot of cfl backlit sets have either a dull picture or the colors are off. I've been eying off Samsung/LG smart TVs as I like the image they produce but they have like no inputs (some of the units I've looked at use some dirty 3.5mm jack with a breakout cable for component). Is there a hdmi converter which will take composite and component and RGB? Anyway at back to the question, is it worth the extra for a commercial display?? I want something that perfom solid and has good picture (my teac had nice picture but looks like crap in dark scenes because of the edge lit LEDs).. I remember hearing that some displays use backlights that turn of parts to make better blacks?? With tho the smart TVs (this is to people whom own one) what is the UI like? I don't want something that is littered with apps and stuff.. Basically all all I want is a display none of the bloat ware that comes with newer sets..
I have a 65" Vizio 3D smart TV, and I rarely use any of the built in apps. I only got a Vizio because the price on the set was insane (I only paid $749 for it brand new), and I wanted a 1080p TV to replace my aging 720p 42". I was kind of worried, as I know Vizio is considered a "budget" brand, but the picture quality on this set is amazing. The 3D effect is awesome, especially when gaming with a decent enough PC to run Nvidia 3d vision, but even in 2D mode, the picture on it rivals sets that cost hundreds more. I would comment on how the apps and the smart interface function, but as I said, I have never used them in the year I have had the TV. Here is a link to the 55" version of the TV http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...M1VgRGND3-70u7ae3K3KT5dUZjOFPomds5xoC0Erw_wcB EDIT : Just realized you are looking for commercial grade TV's. Disregard my post XD
Panasonic VT65 I have this TV, its amazing. https://www.avforums.com/review/panasonic-vt65-vt60-tx-p65vt65b-3d-plasma-tv-review.530
I've been wondering about this too, I am very very sensitive to ghosting so I would need a TV with zero ghosting.
Funny that you have a TEAC as I just bought one of those recently (50"). Previously I had a Soniq (JB's exclusive brand) and that was pretty awful. For starters the "smart TV" interface added 30+ seconds to the power-up time because it'd try connect to some stupid streaming service they tried to launch but never went anywhere. Then it'd boot into the interface and you'd have to hit a button to turn it off EVERY TIME you turned the TV on. It lasted about 6 months before the picture disappeared out of nowhere one day. We were just watching TV and bang, gone. Still had sound so I tried a factory reset etc but to no avail. Contrast etc wasn't great either soooo avoid Soniq! The TEAC is good though. Not sure if you'd want to go with another one of those but yeah. No "smart" bullshit or anything. I've had 2 Samsungs die on me (well, one mine, one my Dad's) too. Their warranty process was a bit shitty but they were nice TVs. Avoid Sony because they don't build anything that lasts. LG are alright and the ones that come with the "smart" stuff don't force it on you. If you don't care about that stuff you'd never know it was there (doesn't seem to affect power-up time in any way). It doesn't really work too well if you ever want it to though. I have limited experience with them but I spent about 20 minutes trying to make the YouTube app work on a friend's TV and every time it just froze. Those 3.5mm breakout cables for component seem to be "the thing" now unfortunately. Even the TEAC has one! As for RGB to HDMI I've been eyeing off a $40 box on Aliexpress. Seems to have a decent reputation (for the price) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GljAFO44Z1U LED panels look pretty good. I think the best advice is to view in store with your own eyes. Reviews and all that are great but nothing beats seeing it with your own eyes!
It seems Soniq have gone into the deep end with this "cheap, smart TV" horseshit. Remote is horrible too. Their TVs before all that crap were good. I've currently got a 42" L42V11A, it's still kicking few years old. Picture isn't bad, my only complaint is the horrible speakers in them, costs are cut somewhere with budget TVs. Just glad the panel isn't. IR Receiver is bad, very bad same with their Blu-Ray players even though the actual hardware isn't horrible, it's a major let down. My remote for the TV fucked up, and there's nothing to the board other than a very small chip (IC?) it probably borked when it was hit who knows. So far it's all potluck, major brands, low-end brands they all have flaws, it's down to what you want to spend.
If you buy a cheap ass brand you will get a cheap ass TV. Simple as that. Also, I've noticed that a lot of Japanese brands in the west are not as well made due to the attitude of wanting everything for nothing. TV sets here cost more than the west but that's because they are built better. As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.
True to a point but when I read about people buying crap brands then wondering get why their TV isn't very good makes me laugh. My sister in law's husband works for a very big Japanese electronics company. The stuff he was telling me about quality control and parts used for each region was shocking. You'd expect each company to use the same quality world wide but apparently not.
Oh yeah, the remotes for Soniq stuff are a bit shocking. I have one of their bluray players and while it works well I have to hit the buttons HARD. Turning the thing on can be a mission. The TV was super laggy with remote responses too.
