commodore 1084S compatible with Gamecube?

Discussion in 'Rare and Obscure Gaming' started by megabyte10240, Mar 6, 2008.

  1. Like the title says, I was wondering if my Commodore 1084S video monitor would be compatible with a gamecube.

    ...

Yes, though you'll very likely experience some color washout.

Why, because of the notch filter?

I was also wondering why there should be a washout? The monitor is RGB capable, it produces an excellent very sharp image when being used with an Xbox.
I don´t remember clearly if the 1084 or the 1085 had the Scart input, I only remember that one of them had a RGB 9pin in, the other a Scart connector, one of them was stereo, the other had mono sound only.
Or I am confusing one of them with an even older model, had quite a few of these from my C128/Amiga days. Astoundingly, they all still work and provide a crisp image.

I can only recommend the old Commo monitors for console usage, though for some models you may need to solder yourself an adaptor cable. But the pinouts should all be available on gamesx.

Edit: Just found it, if it´s an 1084d (that´s what mine was) you will be fine:

That´s the monitor I used with an Xbox, have sold both to a friend who still uses them almost daily. Can´t vouch for the 1084s variants though.

Edit the 2nd: the 1081 was the other monitor apparently, the one with the scart input. But I can 100% guarantee that mine wasn´t monochrome... seems like they produced quite a few variants.
Anyway, in one form or another, every monitor from the 1080-range should have an RGB input, so producing a decent picture should pose no problem to them

No probs with using a 1084 with an Xbox using a SCART lead. I can imagine Gamecube is the same.

  8. wait can't i just plug it into the Video audio L/R?

the 1084D was mono , the 1084S was Stereo afaik.

1084 Monitors shipped with either 9 pin RGB or SCART, but you can easily build a cable for the 9pin adapter for perfect RGB. its in fact a pretty good monitor for video games of the older generation. sNES feels totally right on it.

Yes you should be able to use the Composite Video input. You don't have to use RGB.

Yes, you can do that. Just in case you don't know, the yellow goes into Video or CVBS, the white goes into Audio L, and the red goes into Audio R. That should go for any console that uses composite out.

The 1084 series are very good monitors. I've even connected a VCR into one and used it as a TV!

  12. hmm it seemed to not work the screen was white but the sound worked :(

EDIT: nvm it workds changed to composite

Yes, it'll work. Yes, you can use composite but the console has to be from the same country as Commodore monitors usually don't sync to the other.

There's nothing rare about a Commodore monitor or a Gamecube though, so why is this posted in here?
