first off i apologize if this isn't the best place to ask this, but i'm not really sure where else to ask about this, so bear with me

At work today i found an old compaq lte 286 laptop 2690 series, and I of course grabbed it! pretty good shape, missing a few tiny bits and pieces here and there but overall seems in good cosmetic condition. i want to try and get it working again, but my first issue is giving power to it. it seems to use this weird 4 prong plug for ac power, and while i do have the battery i am quite certain it is about as useful as a paperweight at this point(my voltmeter says it has 0.02 volts though, so who knows).

various online marketplace searches have yielded nothing for power supplies and batteries, so for the time that leaves me with jimmy rigging my own power supply without damaging the laptop. i've got a few ideas including hardwiring up a power supply with the proper voltage and amperage, but i'm big on preserving history, so i would like to avoid that.

does anyone have any information on these old laptops that could me out? it says the maximum input is 5volts, but what is a good amperage? also can anyone point me to where i can find a pinout of the power plug? another idea i have is just hooking up alligator clips up to the battery connections, which should work as well.

the pinout confuses me, it says 12volts with a a question mark. i'm gonna hook up an atx psu for the 5 volts, and not sure if i need to hook up the 12volt or if that will fry it. i found a cheaper one, i just don't want to invest a whole lot of money into this just yet until i can asses what exactly needs to be fixed.

and why? because i enjoy messing with old tech

i had a bit too much to drink last night when i posted this, hahaha. so yea sorry i could've done a better job at googling. i managed to find a power supply that provided 5volts at 2A so i hooked that up and it turned right on but turned itself off a second later. just like the game gears do with bad caps. took it apart and lo and behold! some of the caps are leaking. also the floppy drive belt was basically mush, so i replaced that as well.

hopefully recapping it will fix the power issues. luckily the corrosion hasn't progressed beyond the cap contacts. and i'm probably just gonna make my own power plug on the battery door and solder it to the battery terminal contacts because yea, 35$ for a power supply for something this old is just dumb.

i'm not in it for practicality, i just really enjoy fixing things as well as a collector of these sorts of things.
