This past summer I picked up a collection games from EGM that included a virtual boy prototype. Finally dug out a system and sure enough it does work. However, out of every possible game it could be this is the least exciting possible. Virtual League Baseball. Still I'm excited to have it but it is so hard to know if this is anything special. First I'm going to pick up a retail copy in hopes I can spot something obvious but you can't take pictures of game play. Any shortcuts or advice out there on this sort of thing?
So you're wondering how to show off the pictures of the proto gameplay? I've taken pictures of stuff on my VB, it definitely is possible. I find different cameras work very differently, but basically cameras with smaller lenses tend to capture more of the screen, though with lesser quality (Cell phone camera for example). Cameras with bigger lenses are quite clear, but they tend to not capture the whole screen. I also found that it's possible to record video if you wanted, I use a DSLR and I set the shutter speed to 50 and it comes out without that nasty flicker most people get. I can link you a video of mine to show what it looks like if your interested. Some tips would be to take the visor off, and use a tripod if possible. Let me know if you need anything else, VB is one of my favorite systems.
Well yes they are by design a bit harder to work with. Screen shots aren't easy. Even comparing a retail game a prototype using traditional methods presents new challenges. Often I'll run the retail version side by side with a prototype using two televisions. This isn't possible at least not with the tools I have at my disposal. You could I suppose get two virtual boy systems and glance back and forth. I'll have to experiment with the camera tricks you suggest.
I wish you luck, I know it's not an easy task. If you do get another system, take the visors off both them so you can shift between quickly.
