Was wondering this for awhile now. I've heard countless people tell me that you need to open up your desktop and install the ODEM PCI board, then hook it up from there. Question: Any way I can do this without opening up my laptop? Some sort of adapter, maybe? If you find anything, it'd be appreciated. ~CrackNTag
If you got what I think you did, you got a PCI card that lets you plug in PCMCIA cards. If there is such a thing as a PCI-PCMCIA bridge, you would probably run into massive compatibility issues with the software. You need a desktop, a laptop isn't going to cut it.
Friend of mine is checking his business suppliers. It's either that or a 1,000 dollar PCI expansion from Magma. And the PC thing? Forget it. My laptop IS my PC replacement. If you don't know what I mean, I'll send you my specs. :V
If space is the issue you can get small form factor computer with a PCI slot not much bigger than your bridge with an enclosure and it will be less costly. If space isn't the issue, someone would probably toss you a Pentium 4 for little to nothing. It'd also be a multitasker and more than capable of hosting your GC development. If you are set on using your laptop you could always RDP into the machine... No matter what you're going to have a lot of hardware out with a GDEV setup.
...Tell me more on PM about the RDP thing. I've seen someone mention RDP on these forums. Plus, I don't mind if it's cheap hardware. All I want is a fully functioning GDEV setup. Purpose? Exploration
you still should have the common sense to use such proprietary hardware as it is intended. it's bad enough to get most dev kits off the ground on fully compatible computer, let alone trying to deal alone with complex and undocumented hardware abstractions. Most people know next to nothing about the ODEM. There's two varieties of it too, so good luck keeping up with compatibility. I would love to see you succeed but I have my doubts as to the result. So go ahead, give the sceptics a surprise. ProTip: Calpis and other users never talk out of their ass. You'd be amazed by the amount of knowledge some people have on the board and thus listening to them could save you a lot of cost and trouble =)
