Hey Guys I have read that the everdrive 64 does not support all games, I heard some boot then freeze, but then I heard it supports all but Banjo Tooie. I am debating between this an the 64drive. ANyone confirm what runs and what does not? thanks Jim
When the ED64 first came out it did not support FlashRAM games. However a lot has changed since then: new Firmware, new OS, new PCB revision, and new boot loader. Technically the only games that are not compatible with v2 to my knowledge are Banjo Tooie and Jet Force Gemini, however there is a hacked version of JFG that will work. My guess is eventually Igor will add BT and JFG compatibility as well using a 6105 CIC.
well, already supports BT and JFG with 6105 I believe, the problem is the bootloader breaks 6103 games if you install a 6105 right now, hopefully fixed soon then 100%
Right if you install 6105 you can play those games, but then lose compatibility with others. I am sure he will fix someday. He has already improved on the ED64 a lot so far. Another consideration is price. Most places sell ED64 board with no CIC for about $100. That is $79 cheaper than the 64drive board only option. The base Deluxe Edition which actually comes with more than the 64drive cart does is $175, which is still $24 cheaper than the cart version of the 64drive and ED64 Deluxe comes with SD card, case, colored cart shell, manual, and more. Both are great products, but now that new OS and new PCB revision is out I think they are pretty much almost the exact same in terms of features.
Several games eg. Animal Forest that use a real time clock don't work yet. I vaguely remember reading a while back that RTC simulation was going to be added sooner or later, but I'm not certain about this. Personally I'd put off your purchase for a while. When and if the ED64 fixes compatibility with 6103 games when using a 6105 CIC thats when I think you should buy it. It has better load speeds than the 64 Drive and a better price tag.
I can't directly recall anyone mentioning RTC support personally and even without a 6105 you're still only missing out on Banjo Tooie, which isn't a hard to find game by any means
The only compatibility issues I've run into so far is with Dr. Mario 64 complaining about an emulator. I haven't updated the firmware yet though so maybe that will solve the problem for me.
