NOTE: I KNOW THAT THE "COMPETITION PRO" IS A CLONE I want to know if the "A-1" labeled one I found is a test the company used before mass producing it. It is definitely high-quality compared to most clones made durring the N64 lifespan A few days ago, I had purchased and received a controller on eBay. Link to eBay page: http://www.ebay.com/itm/181049019643?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 After I received this controller, I began searching for info on it and found this... The controllers are identical other than the name printed across the top. There are many Competition Pro's in circulation, but it seems only 1 A-1 controller exists. Contacted seller and got this reply: If anyone has an opinion on this, or possibly more information, please reply and thanks for your time. EDIT: I would assume 3rd Party Companies test there product before selling tons of them also.
I know it is a clone, but I think I found a prototype/test version of the clone (if that is even possible) Mine seems to be labeled different (although I doubt a prototype of a clone is worth anything, it would be cool to know I have one) I am not expecting much, but it is still a cool/odd item to own. I just really want to know what "A-1" means and why it is there instead of "Competition Pro" like all of the rest have.
my best guess would be that Competition Pro rebranded a product from some Asian manufacturer, and the "A-1" is the original version (or a version rebranded by some third company). I have a Competition Pro SNES controller with a Honey Bee logo on the back, for example, and a bit of googling turns up a version of the same controller in Honey Bee packaging, so it wouldn't be unprecedented.
I searched all over Google and only found the one controller with that name on it. If you can find one and prove me wrong, please do so because as far as I know, it is the only one.
Well I can't find any info about it, but lots of old Chinese peripherals are completely undocumented online. It's hard to say either way really.
