I know there have been various threads concerning Component Switch Boxes in the past and queries on ones to buy and how effective they are. I bought the Phillips PH61148 model from Walmart for $20. It is a manual switch box without amplification. You have to buy a component cable to link the box to the TV as it does not come with one. With a gold plated connection to the TV I have to say the picture quality is fantastic without any artifacts or corruption from the switch box. Well worth buying and I no longer have to worry about the TV port dying from the many switches that occured before the box was plugged in. Hurrah!
I have one of those as well. It works great. I've looked everywhere online for a switch that supports like 10 or more cables. I'd even take 7. But all the ones I find are 4 or 5...
i got a Joytech 540C unit ( looks like an Xbox 360). There are lots of mixed reviews about them, usually either very good or very bad.,.. Personally this is brilliant and i have been very impressed by it. Makes the hassle of switched inputs so easy, especially as its remote controlled too.
Taucias, do you have a picture and model number of that switch box? 20 dollars is really cheap so I'll see if I can import one. It wouls still be a lot cheaper than buying one here in Japan. Yakumo
I would also be interested in more information about it, as my joytech 245c is getting worse everytime i use it
I have a Pelican model switch box that does Composite, compinet, Svid, Optical, and LAN and it has 8 selections on it. I have the manual version and have had it for 3 years and I love it to death and it works great PERFECT quality! http://g-ec2.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/ciu/2e/80/b72f92c008a09907e35f2010.L.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g54/jerseydevilxx/277a035e.jpg Pics are not mine, I just found them on Google images. There are 7 hookups on the rear of the unit and 1 on the front hidden under a flip down door, the front is even Componet They also make a newer version of mine that is all digital and comes with a remote, I have seen them around here in gameshops like GameCrazy for 60$
The front of mine just says "system selector pro" I think mine might be a model 2 thought "system selector pro 2"
Yeah its sweet as hell. And if you get a version like mine then the little name tags above the buttons and interchangable. I got mine before the 360 launch so I dont have any nextgen tags but Im sure a newer one would. And the buttons are back lit lime green, so when you have it turned on and a system selected the name of the item is backlit. AKA if im playing my Xbox the Xbox tag on the selector will be backlit green, it looks cool if playing in the dark I paid like 50$ for mine brand new and I still have the box and tags and stuff for it if you want I can take some pics of the packing so you will know what to look for if you want one like mine. EDIT: Forgot to say I also use it to route surround sound to all my systems, even if they dont have optical out the way I have it set up I can get all the speakers to work for stereo or even mono sound using the system selector.
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=3904683 That is the model I bought. It works a charm! Edit: It sells for $19.99 here. It doesn't weigh much, I can't imagine postage would be very bad at all. Also has 3 component inputs, not 4. It has 4 S-Video and RCA/Phono though.
THanks for the image, Taucias. What was the place that sells it for 19.99? What I'm going to do is get a Component to D-Terminal for the output (My TV doesn't have Component in but 2 D4 Terminals instead, go figure eh) then plug the DVD, Wii and Dreamcast (via a VGA to companent cable) in to the box via component. Should work I think. Yakumo
I've been using AA 1154A which is 4X1 Component Autoselector. Once set up it does the switching by itself. No issue what so ever since 2003~~ Link
Cheers. I've found one (in the US) at a fairly decent price and OK shipping to the UK. Is yours powered?
yes, mine has its own power adapter. Dont know the voltage but the plug it very thin and tiny, best not to lose the AC adapter Works like a charm, love mine to death.
Chip me in for another Pelican System Selector Pro vote. Have had one for a few years and it's wonderful. PS2's refuse to recognize when it's hooked up via ethernet through the thing but everything else works great.
My PS2 seems to work ok when ran through my system selector but then again I only use PS2 networking for FTP access, I have never tryed to play a online game through it. I am looking into getting one of the new digital system selector pros so if I do I will report back on how it is, I have high hopes
All for S-video Fortunately for me my TV has plenty of Component and HDMI ports but only ONE S-video... Still the System Selector Pro 2 would probably be a good fit for my old console (S-video) needs or does someone think there is a better one out there that supports S-video but not Component? ~Krelian
