Having an annoying problem with my PS2 fat, can anyone help...? All of a sudden component video out no longer works when selected in 'System Configuration'. When I switch from RGB nothing happens at all, whereas before the screen would turn green) RGB scart is working fine on my LCD, but not on my CRT TV (blacks are a washed out grey, whites are coming out negative, hard to see) I can get component out to work fine when using the SMS app which has its own screen settings. I'm beginning to thing Free McBoot may have corrupted a setting in the EEPROM, or could it be something hardware related? Is it possible or worthwhile to perform a factory reset on the unit?
FMCB Applications Because your console is already exploited, you should try Boot Manager.elf, this application resets your console to factory settings, if that fails try GSM.elf, thats an application that allows you to play around with your TV settings on your console! PS2Guy!
Thanks for the help. I can't find Boot Manager.elf, could you point me in the right direction? GSM.elf allows me to select any video mode, but it goes back to the default after a reset - it's like the unit is stuck in a weird RGB mode by default. It's driving me mad!
I think I originally got it from SKSApps, do a google search for "BM.ELF", I'll have to check through my 200gb of data that I have of Free McBoot for the exact folder if you can't find it! PS2Guy!
OK, I found it, and have managed to factory reset the unit. RGB Scart is back to normal, but component is still not working properly. If I select component out in the BIOS nothing happens. If I force progressive scan in a game (Shadow of the colossus for example) I get a purple screen I can output VGA fine with a component>VGA adapter, on SMS or GSM
You could always try re-installing Free McBoot on a different console and see if that fixes your problem, if that doesn't work, try a re-install on your console, and failing that it may be a hardware fault in your EEPROM, there are patches for certain games to fix colour and stuff but I'm not quite sure how they work! PS2Guy!
I just thought of another program, LENSCHANGER.ELF lets you re-program the EEPROM so you can change the laser in your machine, this resets the EEPROM back to factory standards, you just need to know your laser type! PS2Guy!
I tried lenschanger, it wouldn't even load, i've no idea why. It seems that when I force component out it defaults to VGA, which is probably why i'm getting a purple screen. A while back I messing around trying to get it working on my sync on green crt, now it seems to be stuck outputting VGA :/
I'm not really sure then, I would try a re-install on your console, otherwise it's got me beat sorry, someone else might have an idea! PS2Guy!
Yeah I did try already on fresh memory card, even without one in it's just the same. Thanks again for the help that's brought me this far.
I'm getting around it just using GSM, which is fine, I've lucked upon getting Ibara and ESPGaluda running in 240p so I've gained more than I've lost Whatever I've dine to screw up the BIOS I can't unscrew, it used to work on component, now it doesn't. I did double-check the cable and that's definitely not the issue, I'm totally puzzled by it. ah well
I'm glad that I could be of some assistance, albeit little, I would keep trying lenschanger or find another lenschanger that works, not all .elf applications work on every console!
