So my roommate gave me my Christmas gift early and it was a sealed copy of Conker's Bad Fur Day. Also I had to upload to imgur because Assemblergames doesn't like the size of my picture files. https://imgur.com/gallery/PfpUo
I still have my copy CIB mint condition from the day I bought it. I never would have imagined it'd become highly sought after, always surprises me still when it's shown around as a collectors piece since I thought they had produced more than enough copies that even a sealed one wouldn't be worth so much. I guess you never know. So this will be a display piece? Sounds like you got a cool roommate.
You would be surprised at how much a sealed copy goes for. I see them usually sell for $200-$400 (max). And yeah its going to be a nice display piece. I put it in a protective case right after I got it. And yeah my roommate is pretty awesome. Also the game sold poorly because Nintendo didn't support the game whatsoever from what I read. So it made it tough to advertise. That's why the game is rare nowadays.
This is indeed a pretty nice Roomate ! What did you bought for him ? The price of Conker games is stupidly high. I mean, even if the game is very good (very very good) and even if it was sold at the end of the N64 era, it is kind of stupid to see it selling at higher prices than some unique pieces like prototypes or development stuffs. But this is definetly a nice display piece ! P.S. : Few weeks ago, I was thinking of doing an unboxing video of games from the NES era, with a camera from that time, clothes from that time, language from that time. I have some sealed NES games that I want to open, and doing a such "Fake Vintage unboxing" video can be pretty cool
I bought him a fairly expensive Wonder Woman statue. He is a huge fan of the comics. But the statue cost nowhere near as much as Conkers. So now I am probably going to get sonething else for him to lol.
Lool, Don't feel the need the buy him something else. The problem with modern Christmas is that everything is a matter of price. I bet your roomate will be happy to receive his Wonder Woman statue even if it is cheaper than the Conker
CBFD sold badly because Nintendo didn't promote it much, plus it was released at the end of the N64's commercial life, when there were far fewers N64 owners left. Nintendo didn't like it because of the swearing, the 'adult' themes, the blood, the times when a cute character is killed graphically, etc. Personally, I have mixed feelings about the single player game. Parts of it are really enjoyable, and it's always really good seeing a new area for the first time, as it's really inventive and interesting. And as you go on through the game, you encounter various parodies of scenes from well known movies. And the gameplay changes in some areas - for most of the game it's a 3D platformer (with very little item collecting), with simple objectives, and occasionally combat (not complex combat, there are no combos or anything, you just press a key on the joyapd when ever you want to hit something or fire a weapon) . In some parts it's a 3D shooter, and in others it's an exploration or racer type level. It's quite a long game, with interesting variation, but some parts are not as enjoyable as others. And I don't think there's much replayability in the single player game, though I know some people do love replaying it. And if you just want to play a certain level, then you can do that as the game allows you to replay any levels that you have already reached and beaten. It is often graphically gorgeous (maybe the best looking N64 game ever), with great voice acting (most of which was done by one person, Chris Seavor, incredibly), and is the funniest game I've ever played apart from a few point and click games like Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle. The worst of the swearing is beeped out, and the violence is all cartoon, so it's not morally offensive, I think. And it has some of the best music on the N64, and the entire game (minus the beeped out swearing) is spoken (and as I've said, the voice acting is really good), and Conker even lip-synchs to his speech! On the minus side, some of the humour is juvenile rather than funny, but tastes differ, so what one person finds funny then another is bound to find stupid or boring, that's human nature. Anyway, by far my favourite part of the game is the multiplayer. There are seven different modes, all with bots (computer controlled players to play against), and some of the modes are *fantastic*. Beach, and Heist, are really good, but War: Colours is by far my favourite - it's sort of like Team Fortress, but you decide your class by the weapon you choose, so you can change your 'class' by picking up a different weapon (you can only carry one weapon, and when you pick up a new one then you lose the old one) - for example if you have the Katana (sword) then you can jump higher, fall farther without getting hurt, and don't appear on the enemies weapons. If you have the bazooka then you move slower, etc. It only has one map, and one objective (capture the flag), so altogether it doesn't sound too great. But I've probably spent more time just playing this one game mode, against the (great) bots, than I've spent playing most of my other games put together. It really is fantastic, and I can turn it on to kill fifteen minutes, and still be playing it four hours later.
Congrats, sounds like you certainly have a generous roommate. My Sam's Club-purchased BFD was definitely opened and played. Fun game.
That's a pretty cool gift. My copy is the cartridge only, though it's in pretty good condition. I finished this game for the first time a few months ago. I really like it, and I think it's pretty funny; my only complaint is that the gameplay can be rather frustrating sometimes - especially the part with the lasers. It's pretty impressive what Rare was able to accomplish technically with this game. Overall I like it, though I think the gameplay could be better in some parts.
